Job Description
To support the technology team in defining and managing Masdar’s Research and Development (R&D) projects and perform financial and strategic analysis of Masdar’s R&D portfolio with more focus on wind technology besides support on other technologies.
To assess proposals for clean technologies from external parties and determine whether the proposed technologies are technically feasible, commercially viable and fit with Masdar’s objectives and potentially support in implementing pilot and demonstration projects on behalf of Masdar’s commercial business units with the goal of creating significant value to the company.
Responsibilities:
Support the implementation of energy storage and Power-to-X projects:
- Provide technical and commercial input to commercial energy storage projects • Lead the Power-to-X projects with other departments in line with overall strategies and objectives.
- Analyse the Power-to-X market and define viable business models in this sector, recommending suitable options to Masdar.
Support in the implementation of various pilot and demonstration projects:
- Support the Technology Unit in the implementation of various pilot and demonstration projects as identified by the strategy including concept design and engineering in line with the overall strategy and plans.
- Perform cost-benefit analyses to determine if the pilot and demonstration projects will provide commercial value to Masdar.
- Support the implementation of the projects, performing project management tasks (contractor management, budget control, reporting, project administration, etc.).
Perform technology assessments & analyses
- Conduct technology assessments and analyses as requested by management and submit reports and recommendations.
- Provide expert advice as and when required to contribute to overall decision making.
Contribute to the development of the Masdar Technology Journal along with the annual Technology report:
- Identify topics of interest to Masdar staff to be featured in the Masdar technology journal, in line with overall objectives and standards.
- Review and proofread the articles that will be featured in the journal from an expert perspective.
Provide administrative support to the Technology/ Engineering team as may be directed
- Work closely with the team to ensure coordination and alignment of duties and processes in order to contribute to the smooth flow of daily work.
- Support the team in ad hoc projects, as and when required by the line manager.
- Create technical presentations or reports and assist the team with the preparation of presentation materials, based on own area of specialty
- Keep up to date on relevant technological developments, assess significance to Masdar and Abu Dhabi, and suggest ways to prioritize R&D areas of interest.
- Apply consistent approaches/discipline and standardized forms in line with relevant policies, processes and procedures.
- Prepare relevant reports and updates as required and to the desired standard.

Compliance with information security policies, procedures and requirements at all times:
- Adhere to any applicable Masdar information security policies and procedures and identify and report security incidents and suspected weaknesses to the appropriate point(s) of contact.
- Protect assets under care (e.g. laptops and other devices) and information/credentials against unauthorized access, sharing, and/or damage/loss, in accordance with the Information Classification and Handling Procedure.
- Clear desks of all sensitive material and log off/ lock workstations at the end of the day and when leaving desk for a prolonged period in accordance with Acceptable Usage Policies.
- Ensure not installing, copying or modifying of any software on Masdar equipment without authorization.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or any other related field
• Master’s Degree in Engineering is an asset
• Chartered Engineer status e.g. (e.g. IET, EUR Ing, PEng) is desirable
Preferred Experience:
• At least 6 years of engineering experience within the renewable energy sector specifically in solar and wind power plants or equivalent experience
• At least 10 years of engineering experience within Utility, Oil & Gas, Consultancy and Manufacturing Industries or equivalent experience
• Experience with grid integration of Conventional (Coal Thermal Power Plant) / Oil & Gas Industry (ADNOC) / (Renewable) energy plants
• Experienced in ETAP, Dig Silent, Auto-CAD, Primavera
