ACCIONA is looking for a Renewable Technician to work with a team of well-trained professionals to maintain Acciona’s 100 MW EcoGrove Wind Farm and the 100 MW High Point PV Facility in northwestern Illinois. This includes basic cleaning and maintenance on the premises surrounding the facilities. The Renewables Technician will use their electrical and mechanical knowledge and experience in Wind turbine technology and PV technology to carry out maintenance tasks and follow safety regulations within the industry. They will cross train to work in tandem with the other site Renewables Technicians.
Responsibilities:
- Perform assembly, commissioning, testing, operations, maintenance, and repairs on wind turbines, PV solar field structures, inverters, battery storage, balance of plant equipment , communications, metrological stations, IT equipment, and substation equipment
- Inspect and troubleshoot equipment, record and review data, looking for abnormal operating conditions and correcting or reporting them, as prescribed
- Conduct and review safety analyses of potential electrical and mechanical hazards in the wind turbines, solar field equipment, switch room, and the O&M building
- Support Root Cause Analyses to assist in determining equipment failure and the reasons for failures when they occur
- Perform all work on site with a continuous emphasis on safety, quality, the environment, and regulatory compliance by utilizing training, experience, and strict adherence to company policies & procedures
- Immediately report any incidents (safety, environmental or regulatory), injuries or unsafe acts that have occurred
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and hazard free work site
- Complete required and accurate documentation associated with corrective and preventive maintenance; maintain records of documentation
- Troubleshoot, adjust, repair, and/or retrofit low to medium voltage electrical, mechanical or hydraulic components associated with wind turbines, photovoltaic solar equipment and the site
- Perform preventative maintenance activities in a safe and efficient manner
- Utilize appropriate safety gear, protective equipment, and control or dissipation of energy sources to ensure work is performed in safe manner
- Conduct safety analysis and review of hazards and energy sources prior to and while performing any work assignment
- Properly maintain tools and equipment used to perform maintenance assignments
- Maintain required training certifications and qualifications as to enable personnel to safely perform work related tasks in a quality matter
- Perform electrical switching activities in the turbines, solar field, balance of plant, and substation, working with voltages up to 345,000 Volts
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Required Skills and Competencies
- Requires a high school education or equivalent, college degree a plus
- Ability to travel to domestic and international locations for training or voluntary work assignments, with advance notice
- Flexibility to work overtime and rotating shifts as required, night shift work as required
- Previous experience working with hand tools and power tools
- Able to work independently
- Ability to move and manipulate up to 50 pounds
- Ability to climb vertical ladders and work at heights of 300 feet
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, and in adverse and extreme weather conditions, in dust, pollen, weeds, grasses, and in confined spaces
- Ability to be certified and work with both medium and high voltage equipment
- Maintain required training certifications
- Have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
- Ability to safely travel to the wind farm within 45 minutes in the event of an emergency
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Passport
