Job Summary:
An opportunity has arisen to join the M&A team at Repsol Renewables based in Houston. The Head of M&A role plays a key part in executing the strategy of the company and supports the decision making of the C-Level executives in the firm. The core pillar of the role is to lead investment transactions and decisions across the renewables business. The Head of M&A will lead the execution of investments/divestments with fast, focused analysis and judge the right level of detail required for each decision. In addition, the Head of M&A will produce insightful analysis and produce clear, concise data for management reporting. The Head of M&A will be in charge of leading the renewable M&A team in North America for Repsol and responsible for the development of the rest of the members of the team.
The position is based in Downtown Houston with a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the acquisition/divestment of renewable energy projects in North America, from origination of the opportunity to execution of the transaction. This includes, among other:
- Lead the negotiation of investment legal documentation (NDAs, MIPAs, LLCs, etc.).
- Liaise with external advisers and intermediaries.
- Lead due diligence process for company management and external advisors.
- Lead the valuation exercise of the target company.
- Lead the preparation of investment / board committee presentations for new opportunities.
- Lead the periodic valuation of the Renewables portfolio, including updating analysis for the latest assumptions and running sensitivity analysis to allow decision making.
- Strategic analysis, initial quantitative and qualitative appraisal of transactions to establish whether sectors and specific deals are worth pursuing.
- Research and analysis of industry information, technical and financial data.
- Lead, analyze and compare investment opportunities, utilizing discounted cash flow and multiples-based analyses.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have an academic background in Mathematics, Engineering, Finance or similar degrees. The role requires a proactive, inquisitive and flexible mindset. You will be leading a dynamic young team and will be given a great deal of responsibility and opportunity to develop your career over time.
- Strong academic background.
- At least 8 years of execution and M&A experience in Renewable Energy or Infrastructure in a big four or M&A department (either a Bank, Fund, IPP, Utility or any other type of investor).
- Experience in the US renewable market.
- Strong network within the investment renewable market in the US.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy with excellent analytical skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, proactive and flexible.
- Practical and commercial approach with proven negotiation experience.
- Ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities.
- Team player able to thrive in a cross-cultural environment.
- Ability to present and defend investment thesis in C-level committees.
- Familiarity with Project Finance structures and process is a plus.
- Experience in Corporate Finance / Accountancy is desirable.
