DescriptionAre you passionate about harnessing the power of the sun to create clean, renewable energy? Do you have the technical expertise to install, maintain, and troubleshoot solar power systems that bring sustainable energy solutions to homes, businesses, and communities? If you’re excited about being hands-on with solar technology and making a real difference in the push for renewable energy, our client has the perfect opportunity for you. We’re looking for a Solar Energy Technician (aka The Solar Power Specialist) to help install and maintain photovoltaic systems that provide clean, cost-effective energy solutions.
As a Solar Energy Technician at our client, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring that solar power systems are installed correctly, safely, and efficiently. Whether it’s installing rooftop solar panels, setting up ground-mounted arrays, or optimizing system performance, your work will contribute to the growing adoption of solar energy and support sustainable development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install Solar Power Systems:
- Install photovoltaic (PV) systems on rooftops, ground mounts, or other structures. You’ll handle everything from mounting panels and wiring to configuring inverters and ensuring proper system setup for optimal power generation.
Conduct Site Assessments and Prepare for Installation: - Perform site assessments to determine the feasibility of solar installations, including evaluating roof or ground suitability, measuring system dimensions, and assessing shading or other obstructions. You’ll ensure the site is prepared for a safe and efficient installation.
Maintain and Troubleshoot Solar Systems: - Conduct regular maintenance checks on solar panels, inverters, and wiring to ensure that systems are running efficiently. You’ll troubleshoot and resolve issues such as shading problems, electrical faults, or damaged equipment.
Monitor System Performance and Optimize Output: - Use monitoring tools to assess system performance and track energy production. You’ll analyze system data to detect underperformance and implement solutions to maximize energy output and efficiency.
Ensure Compliance with Safety Standards: - Follow strict safety protocols and industry standards for solar installations, including NEC (National Electrical Code) requirements. You’ll ensure that all installations meet regulatory and safety standards to protect both the technician and the client.
Educate Clients on Solar System Operation: - Provide clients with guidance on how to use, monitor, and maintain their solar power systems. You’ll explain energy-saving tips, monitoring methods, and basic troubleshooting to help clients get the most out of their solar investment.
Document Work and Maintain Accurate Records: - Keep detailed records of installations, maintenance, and repairs performed. You’ll document system specifications, performance data, and maintenance activities to support warranty claims, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
RequirementsRequired Skills:
- Solar Installation and Maintenance Expertise: Strong experience with PV system installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting. You understand the components of solar systems, from panels and inverters to batteries and wiring configurations.
- Electrical and Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in electrical systems and wiring, with knowledge of the NEC and local electrical codes. You’re skilled in using tools and equipment essential for safe and effective solar installations.
- Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting: Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and repair solar system issues. You’re able to assess problems quickly and find effective solutions to restore system performance.
- Attention to Detail and Safety Compliance: Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to safety. You understand the risks involved in solar installations and adhere to safety protocols to ensure safe operations.
- Customer Service and Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate clients on system operation and provide clear answers to questions. You can explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Educational Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. An associate degree or certification in solar energy technology, electrical technology, or a related field is highly valued.
- NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certification or similar certification in solar installation is advantageous.
Experience Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience in solar installation, maintenance, or electrical work, with hands-on experience installing and maintaining photovoltaic systems.
- Experience with solar monitoring systems and inverter troubleshooting is desirable.
