This role can be in-office, hybrid or remote. We have offices in Atlanta GA, Charlotte NC, Columbus OH, Houston TX, Jackson MI, Orlando FL, Spokane WA and Tulsa OK.
The Physical Substation Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design and/or checking of general arrangements, equipment plans, elevations, sections, control house layouts, grounding design, conduit and cable design, bills of material, and cable schedules. Engineers will be expected to perform their project activities according to project schedules and budgets.
Responsibilities:
Technical Knowledge:
- Knowledge of major substation equipment and its functions.
- Ability to select and specify substation equipment.
- Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards.
- Knowledge of electrical calculations required for substation design.
Design and Documentation:
- Knowledge of the types of drawings required for constructing an electrical substation.
- Development of physical electrical design submittals.
- Preparation of equipment specifications, bid evaluations, and procurement recommendations.
Communication Skills:
- Coordination with clients and internal project management teams.
- Mentorship of less experienced engineers and designers.
Project Management:
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Understanding and adherence to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Development of engineering cost estimates for proposals.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Professional Credentials:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license - preferred
Experience:
- 3-8 years of physical electrical design experience in substations.
Technical Skills:
- Experience in design for substation physical electrical projects.
- Proficiency in substation layout and electrical design for a range of voltages (LV to EHV transmission level voltages).
- Expertise in scoping, engineering cost estimating, and proposal support.
