The Geothermal Engineering intern will assist in performing various types of basic engineering work assignments at NCPA's Geothermal Facility in Middletown, CA. This position provides hands-on experience in Engineering at Geothermal Facilties, database applications, research techniques and Project Management. The intern will also have the opportunity to tour NCPA’s Power Plants, attend professional meetings, and potentially present findings or updates to leadership teams.
This position will work up to 40 hours per week during Summer 2025 in Middletown, CA.
Examples of Duties:
Duties as assigned by the Geothermal Plant Manager or delegate will include but are not limited to gathering, compiling, tabulating, and reporting statistical data; assisting in research projects, special reports, and special projects; compiling requests for proposals and bid documents; organizing electronic and hard copy drawings and construction plans; assisting with warehouse inventory counts; responding to inquiries and requests for assistance, and performing related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Academic status at an accredited college or university taking courses as a full-time student leading to a Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering degree or a degree in a field related to the work which is performed. An interest in working in the power industry or green energy is preferred.
Knowledge of:
•General Engineering Methodologies in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Environmental discipline
•Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, database familiarity, general computer skills
•Recordkeeping and organizational methodologies
•Office equipment and systems such as phones, copiers, scanners, and email
Ability to:
•Use research techniques, methods, and procedures
•Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
•Collect, compile, analyze, interpret, and present statistical data
•Routinely work outdoors in severe weather conditions, walk up and down steep slopes, and climb ladders with a 25-pound pack
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high places, and outside weather conditions.
Valid California Driver's License and insurance required.
