MAJOR DUTIES: As a Communications Specialist, you will perform the following duties: Prepare written information for a variety of audiences who use it in different ways. Prepare and publish written materials that explain and interpret complex policies, programs, and functions of an organization or present advanced scientific and technical findings and applications. Review and edit or provide feedback on written content developed across the organization to consistent, high quality communications materials. Produce electronic and printed material. Work with graphic artists to determine visual design and layout, arranging visual elements and text, using image placement, text layout and style, and graphic element techniques. Arrange content onto a variety of outreach materials with supporting photographs or images. Gather and evaluate the accuracy of research and interviews with subject- matter specialists and managers. Develop and revise communication plans and policies; assure plans and policies are rewritten to enhance their clarity, and identify the most effective means of communicating information with various internal and external audiences. Develop collaborative communications activities within the organization, among other agency offices and other federal and private sector organizations. Execute national outreach campaigns to convey complex information concerning the agency's program. Evaluate the effectiveness of communication plans and policies and advise immediate supervisor as well as the senior staff as to whether the plans and policies should be discontinued, expanded or changed.
