JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in Lake Mead National Recreation Area, in the Division of Resource Stewardship and Interpretation. MAJOR DUTIES: You will perform the following duties to include, but not limited to: Serving as the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) Coordinator for Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Establishing and fostering effective partnerships through the environmental planning and compliance process. Ensuring appropriate application of the laws, regulations and policies related to the protections and management of Tribal, natural, cultural and Wilderness resources, and the development of comprehensive environmental protection policies and programs. Preparing a variety of written documents including compliance documents, minimum requirement analyses and proposals related to Wilderness and environmental protection program issues. Communicating with park staff, management and the public concerning a variety of environmental issues. Ensuring effective use of the National Park Service's Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) site. Ensuring the PEPC site includes all documentation supporting the decision for each action carried out in the park. Performing the full range of supervisory duties for assigned work unit of at least 3 permanent employees. Physical Demands: Work is primarily sedentary in an office environment but may require limited physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Operation of and travel within motor vehicles is required. Work Environment: The majority of the work is performed in an office setting with some travel to attend meetings, conferences and workshops, or for field inspections. The work can occasionally involve moderate risks, discomforts, and unpleasantness such as exposure to dust, hot and dry weather extremes; and flights in small aircraft, including helicopters.
