JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in Mammoth Cave National Park, in the Division. This position is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment. MAJOR DUTIES: This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Mammoth Cave National Park is March - September, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. Major Duties: Incumbent will be required to possess and maintain current valid Merchant Mariner Credential issued by the United States Coast Guard, Capacity: Master MINIMUM Limitations: Operation of steam or motor vessels of not less than 50 gross registered tons restricted to the National Park Service Ferry at Mammoth Cave National Park within one (1) year of employment. Operate a vessel to transport park personnel and/or private citizen's vehicles, including docking and undocking, loading and unloading, operator maintenance and repairs. Transport a variety of vehicle types, including but not limited to passenger vehicles, pickup trucks, vehicles with trailers/campers attached, park-owned heavy equipment; pedestrians and bicycles are also transported. Perform maintenance and service adjustments to the vessels as needed. Operate and navigate vessels safely under a variety of conditions.
