It is home to Latitude festival, Blue Flag beaches, numerous Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects such as Sizewell C Nuclear power station, Sealink (offshore wind) and significant regeneration projects for which we play an important consultative role.
Your role
As part of the Environmental Services and Port Health Leadership Group, you will lead the Environmental Protection functions and have overall responsibility for implementing the strategic direction and corporate priorities, as well as ensuring efficient and effective delivery of the full range of services. The team is a large one and has recently expanded team to enable it to meet increased demand and covers the full range of functions including Private Water supplies, nuisance, animal licensing, environmental waste enforcement, public burials, air quality and planning consultations ranging from small domestic to large, complex nationally significant infrastructure and regeneration projects. You will lead and manage the Environmental Protection team as it expands to meet the exciting challenges ahead. You will be responsible for overseeing many of the complex cases, developing procedures and processes as well as providing professional support, guidance and development opportunities for the team.
What you will need:
With a recognised and appropriate professional qualification in Environmental Health, and membership of the CIEH, you will have extensive post qualification experience, ideally in the Environmental Protection field.
Leading by example and providing a strong sense of direction, you will have the ability to inspire, motivate and manage in a fast-paced environment. You will be a natural communicator who can effectively engage others, with a proven track record in forging successful internal and external partnerships and delivering complex projects on time and within budget. You will be able to influence appropriately and challenge professionally so that the right decisions are made for the council.
