WSP has an opportunity for an experienced Environmental Engineer to join our Marlton, New Jersey office on a full-time basis. This position provides an opportunity to join a team that provides solutions for site remediation and other environmental engineering projects.
The Environmental Engineer will provide technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase environmental engineering projects, and environmental permitting projects. The Project Engineer will assist project leadership with environmental site assessment, development of remedial/corrective measure strategies, selection and design of remedial alternatives, and oversight of construction activities.
Your Impact
Typical responsibilities will include the following:
- Preparing engineering plans and specifications for environmental remediation project using AutoCAD-Civil 3D under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
- Defining methods for collecting, identifying, and compiling environmental data, surveys, and other site related data for investigations, and designs.
- Analyzing environmental data, surveys, and other site related data to develop and advance environmental remediation strategies from investigations, through design to construction bid package stage (i.e., ready for bids) and construction execution stage.
- Conducting investigations and inspections of industrial and agricultural facilities, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water supply facilities, to determine existing site conditions and conformance with applicable regulations, standards, and/or construction/operating permits.
- Preparing technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, clean-up, or address environmental issues or problems.
- Preparing data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
- Working with multi-discipline teams including geologists, environmental scientists, and risk assessors in executing project work.
- Interacting with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.
- Assisting with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
- Work with cross-functional teams including geologists and environmental scientists in executing project work.
- Preparing and implementing site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Maintaining quality control standards and procedures for analysis, reporting, and design.
- Complying with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance/retention.
- Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making and adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, or Construction Engineering or closely related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in remediation or other environmental engineering projects.
- Experience in generating plans and specifications related to the civil aspects of design and/or construction bid packages under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
- Experience with AutoCAD-Civil 3D.
- Ability to write technical reports related to investigations, permitting, engineering studies, design, and construction under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
- Engineer in Training Certification. Expectation that professional engineering license will be obtained in order to advance in the company.
- Proficient knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and methods and their application to civil/environmental and project work-related issues.
- Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.
- Working knowledge with the concepts for reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products, and with typical mitigation methods.
- Working knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles.
- Ability to read and understand design plans and technical specifications and compare them to the appropriate regulations.
- Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic work environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools.
- Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis.
- Ability to direct others in the field including project team members and subcontractors to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Ability to travel depending on project-specific requirements.
- Proof of 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120). and annual 8-hour updates.
- Position is located in Marlton, New Jersey office location with expectation to work 3 days per week minimum in the office or at client site.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project related experience in earthwork, construction dewatering, capping solutions, in-situ soil and/or groundwater treatment, or groundwater treatment systems.
- Experience preparing construction as-built drawings.
- Experience preparing Remedial Action Reports.
- Master’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- Professional Engineering License in New Jersey or ability to obtain reciprocity.
- Experience managing small to mid-size projects with estimated value of $100,000 to $1,000,000.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
