Job Details:
Mercer University is searching for a Director of Environmental Health and Safety.
Responsibilities:
This position has the responsibility for appropriate, applicable program management in the following locations of activity for all university operations, to include Macon, Atlanta, Savannah, Columbus campuses, Regional Academic Centers and Mercer Engineering Center (MERC): 1) coordinate university emergency response plan; 2) university radiation safety program; 3) university hazardous material disposal program; 4) executive management of designated research compliance committees such as IBC and IRSC; 5) presentation of periodic training programs; 6) coordination of emergency response for hazardous material spill/clean up; 7) laboratory safety equipment selection and maintenance program; 8) coordinator for university environmental management system; and 9) research regulatory issues.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in laboratory science such as chemistry, biology, environmental sciences, earth sciences or other closely related field is required. Additionally, candidates must have three years of experience with program management in the areas of radioactive materials license, emergency response for hazardous materials, state and federal environmental regulations, laboratory safety equipment programs and occupational safety issues. Candidates with a master's degree and/or prior higher education experience are highly desirable.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of regulations related to environmental health and safety.
Completion of special training in the areas of EPA and OHSA regulations, radiation safety and bio-safety.
Self starter and critical thinker
