Our client, as a minority shareholder, is involved in a JV agreement with a China Partner and they would like to support the environmental commitments of the JV by assigning expert environment resources to assist the management to identify, design and drive environmental action plans of the JV, with a priority focus on the site (mine).
You will report o
perationally to the Mine Director and functionally to our Client's Environmental Director (HQ in Europe).
General missions:
- Assist in identifying main environmental challenges and risks of the operations of the Mine and in working with the company management to define and implement practical and sustainable (economically and technically) mitigation actions.
- Interact with operators and managers on all environmental matters on the ground related to the mine business to promote and enforce environmental SOPs, with a particular focus on stockpiling and hydraulic works (drainage and sedimentation ponds).
- Support the compliance of the mining operations with Indonesian regulations.
- Lead the development of a comprehensive and robust environmental management system, as well as easy tools and reporting in order to progressively have the mine compliant with IRMA standards, and to get ready for an external IRMA Audit within 2 to 3 years.
- Manage mining environmental team of approximately 10 persons, that is currently covering water management, revegetation and waste management, plus daily monitoring.
- Participate in Environmental and Social studies for projects as required by the management
Main tasks:
- Help organize annual risk analysis workshop / sessions with key managers on environmental risks on the mine’s operations;
- Support the mine management to design environmental action plans. Once validated, follow up implementation (daily / weekly), alert on deviations and propose corrective actions;
- Perform field visits and environmental reviews to ensure compliance to environmental rules and regulations. In case of identified gaps in compliances, propose to mining management a corrective action plan ;
- Elaborate KPI (lagging and leading indicators) and collect relevant information to be regularly reported to the management ;
- Inform, advise and eventually train the management team on best environmental practices ; Particularly to Mine Director and Deputy Plant Manager
- Keep informed and updated on evolution of Indonesian regulations.
Profile and experience:
- Degree in science or engineering, with environmental expertise
- 8 to 15 years’ experience in environmental matters management in mining, commodities or heavy industry background (ex. Chemical, etc.)
- Field person, with an appetite for “on the ground” action and communication with operations
- “Hands on” personality with passion for finding practical solutions and excellent relationship skills
- English and Bahasa fluency needed, Chinese mandarin a plus
