BAE Systems is hiring for an Environmental Specialist to join our team at our Radford, Virginia, location. In this role as an Environmental Specialist, your duties will include, but will not be limited to, the following:
- Ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental regulations, consent decrees, and permits.
- Preparing and submitting routine air, TSCA and EPCRA reports: Consent Decree reports, MACT reports, excess emissions quarterly reports, semi-annual reports.
- Assisting with annual certification of compliance and other aspects of the Title V air compliance programs.
- Interfacing with operation departments to communicate and define the Environmental Specialist role in compliance efforts.
- Preparing and submitting permit applications, as required.
- Occasionally interfacing with regulatory agencies to ensure the understanding of, and compliance with, all applicable environmental regulations and requirements.
- Participating in environmental audits and inspections.
- Collecting samples and reporting, including completion of chains of custody and identification/knowledge of appropriate storage containers.
- Providing basic environmental training, as needed.
- Performing and supporting compliance inspections.
- Taking on special assignments or tasks assigned by the supervisor, as determined, from time to time.
- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in an environmental or STEM-related discipline including, but not limited to Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, and/or Civil Engineering and two (2) years of related work experience, or the overall equivalent experience;
- Ability to work on a multi-disciplinary and diverse team;
- Able to support in a chemical manufacturing environment;
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite and environmental industry related reporting and monitoring software applications.

- Master's degree in environmental-related discipline;
- Five (5) years of experience in state environmental reporting, permit maintenance and compliance, hazardous waste management and compliance monitoring;
- Universal waste management and compliance monitoring;
- Non-hazardous waste management and compliance monitoring;
- Interaction with, and exposure to, VDEQ personnel and regulations;
- CHMM certification;
- EIT or EI certification, or PE licensure.
