As part of the Worldwide Environment team, Amazon's Worldwide Carbon team is dedicated to working across the company with our business units to make operational changes to accelerate solutions and decarbonize our businesses in service of The Climate Pledge.
As part of the Sustainable Buildings team within Worldwide Carbon, this candidate will work with internal business partners to support Amazon’s carbon reduction goals throughout our global real estate, from site selection and leasing through operations.
This scope will also include working on sustainable building initiatives beyond carbon, to address other environmental and social impact areas. The role will work other teams inside WW Sustainability, and industry and other external partners, to advance our sustainable building work internally and with the broader industry.
This role will also lead central initiatives that support our strategic approach to meeting The Climate Pledge in our real estate, and therefore, the ideal candidate will have expert built environment knowledge, along with deep technical experience in sustainability. The candidate must be fluent in operational and embodied carbon, third-party certification, and have experience with scaled implementation of sustainable building projects.
The candidate scope of work can include improving data systems such as carbon models to quantify and track building-related performance at a portfolio and business level; supporting glidepaths, abatement priorities, and techno-economic modeling; developing improvements to existing operational and embodied carbon processes and data systems; and developing roadmaps that help us stay on pace to meet our sustainability commitments in our new and existing buildings.
Key job responsibilities
- Support the execution of a comprehensive sustainability program for Amazon’s real estate
- Work with diverse stakeholders to coordinate, and implement strategies to reduce, monitor, and optimize Amazon’s carbon footprint in buildings
- Prepare written analysis of findings and recommendations for various building-related sustainability solutions, and manage key external relationships and partnerships
- Assist in the development of tools to surface, analyze and report out building data necessary for business teams and centralized leadership reporting and decision-making
- Analyze and communicate the financial impact of projects and initiatives
- Communicate and present to key leaders
- Manage multiple projects that roll-up into a single program, linking datasets and progress
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders, and in some cases external suppliers

- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Planning/Real Estate, Environmental science, Business, or related field
- 7+ years of experience working in building industry, with demonstrated experience with sustainable, high-performance buildings
- Experience managing multiple project timelines, scopes, and budgets
- Ability to read and understand building drawings, specifications, and other mechanisms; Experience with providing feedback on these tools to incorporate sustainability performance criteria and process improvements.
- Advanced degree (MBA, MS)
- 10+ years of demonstrated sustainable building experience
- AIA, PE, CEM, PMP, and/or building professional accreditation (ex., LEED AP, LFA)
- Experience with building systems and commercial/industrial construction practices
- Experience developing and implementing carbon reduction and sustainable building implementation strategies at a portfolio and/or company-level (energy, carbon, water, materials, waste etc.), and providing quality control from concept through operations

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $207,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
