SUMMARY: The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing environmental health and safety programs to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, create a strong environmental health and safety culture as well alignment with the company’s goals. This role involves reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing work environments to design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent diseases or injuries caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. The manager may also conduct inspections, enforce compliance with health and safety laws and regulations, and determine the safe use, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Create and enforce policies and procedures to comply with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations.
- Develop emergency response plans and conduct regular drills
- Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures
- Perform regular safety audits and inspections.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Research to evaluate safety levels for products
- Conduct or coordinate worker training on safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and the use of safety equipment.
- Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.
- Takes action to ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and requirements, including Cal/OSHA, EPA, Air and Water Boards, as well as local agency regulations and standards; advises managers on safe work methods and practices and the elimination of environmental hazards; investigates accidents, near misses, and chemical spill/release incidents, and ensures proper reporting measures are met to all internal departments, as well as external regulatory agencies.
- Working with site management, develop, monitor, and administer safety training plans/programs/audits that generate positive and continuous improvements.
- Initiates, directs, and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMPs) in bottling/packaging and bulk wine production.
- Tracks incident rates and statistics
- Evaluates and recommends GMP, safety, and environmental requirements in ordering new equipment where needed to protect the employees and the environment
- Develops effective auditing and benchmarking program to evaluate safety compliance with GMP and SOP standards
- Ensures appropriate communication with all staff, including organizing and conducting effective meetings
- Lead Safety Team Program
- Create and maintain workplace violence procedures, protocols, and practices.
- Oversee security contractor/employees
- Maintains EH&S procedures, polices, and conducts required training to ensure compliance with governmental regulations
- Assists with the development of a company Industrial Hygiene Plan, performs personal exposure monitoring and other area sampling to determine compliance with exposure standards and regulations
- Prepares EH&S summary reports and evaluates potential health hazards. Recommends engineering & administrative controls and personal protective equipment.
- Performs EH&S audits and recommends corrective actions. Assists in the development of EH&S courses and schedules
- Performs a wide range of relevant training and maintains employee training records. This position requires the oversight and coordination of all Safety compliance programs while working with all departments and management to accelerate and improve the effectiveness of our EH&S activities
- Ensures that events are reported in a timely and responsible manner, verifies that appropriate investigations are completed and that preventative EH&S programs, where necessary, are developed and implemented
Environmental:
- Manages effluent remediation operations to ensure the site maintains regulatory requirements
- Collects and manages required operational data required to complete quarterly and annual reporting to regulatory agencies
- Manages the completion of quarterly and yearly reporting to regulatory agencies
- Manages environmental reporting for regulatory agencies
- Initiates, directs, and implements ecological standards and manages wastewater and air quality programs
- Manages hazardous waste program and looks for ways to minimize dangerous and regulated waste
- Develops effective auditing and benchmarking program to evaluate production compliance with environmental standards
- Keeps Safety standards current on Cal-EPA requirements
- Test workplaces for environmental hazards, such as exposure to radiation, chemical or biological hazards, or excessive noise
- Prepare or calibrate equipment used to collect or analyze samples
- Maintain all required environmental records and documentation
- Supply, operate, or maintain personal protective equipment
- Prepare or review specifications or orders for the purchase of safety equipment, ensuring that proper features are present and that items conform to health and safety standards
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree preferred, or bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience required
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Management (CHMM) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) a plus
- 2-5 years of related Health and Safety work experience in a water/wastewater, industrial and/or construction environment federal or state occupational, safety or health regulatory experience preferred
- Minimum 3 years of management/supervisory experience
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state Health and Safety (OSHA)
