Who You Are:
Versar is seeking a talented and self-motivated National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Specialist to support our NEPA and Planning team within our Environmental Management Group.
Primary responsibilities are to contribute to the preparation of Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) for complex and often controversial projects nationwide completed primarily for the Air Force and other Department of Defense agencies.
What You’ll Do:
Your day-to-day contributions will include:
- Supporting our multi-discipline NEPA and Planning team.
- Gathering data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental documents.
- Compiling and organizing environmental data collected by others.
- Conducting scientific analyses to support technical reports, agency coordination, EAs and EISs, and permit applications.
This individual will complete work at the direction of senior staff and project managers; however, the expectation is that all but the most complex tasks can be accomplished with minimal supervision.
What You’ll Bring:
This role requires excellent communication skills, an ability to work collaboratively with team members and clients across a wide range of geographic areas, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to multitask within a dynamic professional environment. The successful candidate will have strong technical credentials in at least one resource commonly analyzed as part of NEPA analyses (e.g., water resources, occupational health and safety, biological resources, cultural resources, land use, socioeconomics, environmental justice).
- BS degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, planning, or related field (environmental biology, ecology, wildlife management, historic resources, archaeological resources, NEPA, urban planning, water quality) required.
- Master’s degree in a relevant environmental discipline preferred.
- 5-10+ years of experience.
- Previous environmental consulting experience in support of Department of Defense (DoD) agencies a plus.
- Strong technical/scientific writing skills.
- Ability to convey thoughts and ideas in a clear and concise manner is critically important.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act.
- Experience with DoD regulations, specifically Air Force and Navy, a plus.
- Ability to organize data in an efficient and clear manner and to handle multiple tasks concurrently with shifting priorities.
- Willingness to learn through on-the-job experience and to expand professional experience/qualifications beyond current area of expertise.
- Ability to work well with people from different technical backgrounds.
- Experience with NEPA scoping and public outreach a plus.
- Ability to obtain security clearance for work on DoD Installations.
- Valid driver's license and compliance with Versar’s vehicle policy.
- Successful results of preemployment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen.
- Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
- Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate’s start date.

Compensation
Expected Salary: Starting at $65,000
