Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety Specialist - Construction
Location: Dumfries, Virginia
Position Type: Contract (minimum 6 months)/Full-Time
Overview: We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our team in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in construction safety, a strong technical background, and a commitment to ensuring a safe and compliant work environment.
The hiring company is a nationally recognized industry leader in environmental remediation, selective demolition, and concrete sawing and drilling, seeking to fill the position of an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist.
The pay rate is likely between $38 per hour to $42 per hour.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and manage environmental health and safety programs for large construction projects.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Provide safety training and support to project managers, supervisors, and workers.
- Maintain and update safety documentation, including incident reports and compliance records.
- Collaborate with other safety professionals and regulatory agencies to stay current with industry standards and best practices.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement preventive measures.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of safety equipment and personal protective gear.
- Prepare and deliver safety presentations and reports to stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in safety or a related technical field with a minimum of 5 years of large project experience in a construction environment, OR
- A minimum of 5 years of experience on large construction projects with completion of the OSHA 500 training course, OR
- CHST designation with a minimum of 4 years in a construction safety environment.
Licensing & Certifications:
- Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record (Company vehicles provided for work-related travel).
- Ability to pass criminal and motor vehicle background checks.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and may need to wear appropriate respiratory protection.
Skills
:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat PDF programs.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Strong self-motivation and ability to handle multiple responsibilities.
- Capability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in relevant fields such as Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, Safety & Health Studies, Environmental Science, etc.
Experience:
- Experience with industrial hygiene (IH) monitoring and sampling equipment, with an interest in learning more about different IH equipment uses and functions.
- Willingness to learn about the environmental and demolition industry, including conducting environmental audits for hazards such as asbestos, lead, mold, silica, and nuisance dust.
Professional Development:
- Willingness to pursue Continuing Education Credits (CEU) and/or additional professional certifications.
