Position Title: Custodian

Position Status: Full-time/ Part-time, Nonexempt

Position Description:
The Custodian is responsible for the cleaning and maintaining of the zoo’s buildings, viewing windows, signs and removal of litter from our walkways. The Custodian is responsible for performing event set up and breakdowns.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for cleaning and maintaining a clean condition all assigned areas. Work performed must meet established quantity and quality standards. Including but not limited to:
- Disinfecting and wiping surfaces
- Cleaning restrooms and guest areas
- Sweeping, vacuuming and mopping floors
- Responsible for re-stocking of products for assigned areas.
- Responsible for maintaining in a clean condition Janitorial and other storage areas.
- Responsible for performing requested event set up and take downs. Work performed must be done in a timely fashion and meet requestor’s requirements.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Skills:
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Ability to properly operate and maintain custodial equipment.
- Ability to interact professionally with both staff and visitors.
- Ability to prepare inventory usage reports, daily time sheets etc.
- Ability to perform non housekeeping tasks requiring unskilled or semi-skill levels.
Education/ Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Minimum High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Prior janitorial, custodial and/or general housekeeping experience preferred, but not required
Physical Responsibilities:
- Working conditions may involve being outside. Must be able to work outside year round in inclement weather such as extreme high/low temperatures, snow and rain conditions.
- Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift. Applicants are required to have the ability to bend, stoop and extend oneself etc., as required for performing assigned tasks.
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
Work Schedule:
Work schedule may include early or late start times and working weekends and holidays as required to meet the zoo’s operating needs.
Full-time position, averaging 40 hours per week.
Flexibility: Position may require flexibility in working hours to accommodate special events, emergencies, or animal care needs.
