Position: Fleet Technician
Reports To: Director of Facilties
Compensation: $22.00 per hour to start
Position Summary:
The Fleet Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the fleet of education vans and other work vehicles and equipment (including vans, UTVs, golf carts, scissor lifts, and forklifts), ensuring the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium can operate efficiently and effectively. This is a full-time position that requires experience in vehicle maintenance and repair. The Fleet Technician will also assist in other facilities maintenance responsibilities as needed, contributing to the goal of a “World Class Aquarium.”
Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or GED required
· ASE A1-A9 and ASE C1 certifications are preferred; ASE training is highly valued
· Two-plus years of experience in automotive or fleet maintenance
· Trade certificates or relevant post-secondary degree or coursework preferred
Critical Skills/Competencies:
· Strong diagnostic and repair skills for fleet vehicles, with a preference for experience with electric and gas vehicles in addition to scissor lifts, forklifts, and small utility vehicles (e.g., UTVs, golf carts)
· Familiarity with mechanical systems, automotive repairs, hydraulic systems, and other relevant areas
· Ability to prioritize workload and work independently with minimal supervision
· Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve issues accurately and efficiently
· A mechanical aptitude for maintaining and repairing both vehicles and facility equipment
· Strong organizational skills to manage fleet maintenance schedules, parts inventory, and repair documentation
· He/she must be able to complete tasks independently with no supervision with a high degree of accuracy
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Ability to work in a team and adhere to safety protocols
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Manage and maintain the fleet of education vans, UTVs, golf carts, scissor lifts, and forklifts
· Conduct regular vehicle inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure the safety and reliability of all fleet assets
· Perform repairs on mechanical systems, including engines, brakes, transmissions, and electrical systems
· Coordinate with vendors for outsourced repairs as needed
· Assist with other facility maintenance tasks such as landscaping, snow removal, or carpentry when vehicle maintenance needs are low
· Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and regulatory requirements for vehicle operation and maintenance
· Maintain detailed service records for all fleet vehicles
· Assist with maintenance of the facility, including building, vehicles/equipment, and grounds when needed
· Other duties as assigned
Scope of Position:
· Weekend work is required
· Periodic evening work and some holidays expected
Physical Demands of the Job:
· Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting
· Ability to lift/push/pull up to 80 lbs.; up to 100 lbs. with assistance
· Comfortable working at heights up to 100 ft., as needed
Special Working Conditions:
· Primarily a workshop and outdoor environment
· Must be comfortable working around water, salt, power tools, and animals
· The overall work environment while performing this job includes exposure to weather conditions, and the noise level is usually moderate
