This project is to identify, build and maintain memberships that create networks across several of the Social Determinant of Health Domains in Wyoming. This position will help us identify directions in which to build networks across housing, human services and clinical medical partnerships. We will be serving the entire state of Wyoming, in all 23 counties. The Vista candidate can work in an office setting across this state network, based on office availability in various communities. We will be collecting, aggregating, assessing and evaluating data collected across the state to best identify gaps and areas of high need so office location of the VISTA candidate can be at one of 12 different locations.
As energy opportunities expand, coal and power facility jobs are declining across the United States. The Energy Communities AmeriCorps VISTA project will develop and advance programs that increase environmental awareness and stewardship, job training, employment pathways, and access to existing federal and community resources for low-income individuals living in energy transition communities. Energy Communities AmeriCorps members will serve low-income energy communities that are experiencing energy transformations. VISTA members will be placed with local organizations to help assess environmental impacts, identify existing supports, and develop economic transformation and revitalization goals with their communities.

About the Site and Position:
In 1964, Congress passed the Economic Opportunity Act as part of America’s War on Poverty. This act created a funding stream for communities to address poverty on the local level. Today, each state receives Community Services Block Program (CSBG) funds according to a statutory formula. In turn, states fund a network of local entities for the purpose of assisting low-income individuals and families with activities and support services that empower them to overcome the effects of poverty and to support their progress towards greater self-sufficiency. In Wyoming, the Department of Health administers the CSBG funds. These funds are granted out to CSBG Eligible Entities. In many states, these Eligible Entities are referred to as Community Action Agencies. Community Services Network of Wyoming (CSNOW) is the statewide association for Wyoming's Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) program grantees. Our mission is to provide advocacy, training, technical assistance, and support to Wyoming CSBG-eligible entities to build, strengthen, and unify the Community Action Network and its agencies. By providing numerous training and networking opportunities around the state, we strengthen the work that CSBG funded organizations do in their community. We facilitate communication between these agencies so that successful programs can be replicated across the state. We advocate on behalf of these agencies so that they can continue the work they do in their community for generations to come. We also partner with other organizations and stakeholders that are working to alleviate poverty across the state of Wyoming. CSNOW is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a board of directors.
Member Duties:
The VISTA member will assess and develop an asset map of existing community supports and new federal opportunities available to the community. The VISTA will identify organizations serving the community and build partnerships and coalitions to align resources. The VISTA will develop strategic plans utilizing community input to identify anti-poverty initiatives needed by the community.
