Job Summary
The Guest Exhibit Attendant will serve as an ambassador for the Butterfly House & Aquarium, greeting visitors as they enter and exit the conservatory and aquarium spaces. Must be able to communicate the stated rules of the exhibit spaces and implement them tactfully in a crowded environment. Responsible for making sure that containment procedures are being followed; this may involve the use of a net to catch any escaping butterflies in the vestibule as well as ensuring the proper protocol for interacting with animals in the aquarium spaces. The successful candidate will be able to excel in a fast-paced, crowded environment. The candidate will also have limited exposure to other aspects of guest exhibit oversight if needed in the aquarium, i.e. touch tank.

Experience & Engagement Director
Essential Functions:
- Greet visitors entering and exiting the conservatory.
- Represent the Butterfly House & Aquarium positively.
- Communicate the stated rules of the containment facility.
- Implement rules tactfully in a crowded environment.
- Ensure that containment procedures are being followed.
- Uphold the USDA guidelines for the facility
- Supervise guests with interactive exhibits and exhibit guidelines
- Use a net to catch escaping butterflies in the vestibule.
- Confiscate any plant material being taken into or out of the conservatory.
- Enforce containment measures with diplomacy.
- Be adaptable to other aspects of guest exhibit oversight.

- Understanding and adherence to protocols and procedures
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
- This position does require a successful completion of a background check.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Work Environment
- Work is mainly performed in the Conservatory, which is typically 85 degrees with high humidity year-round; a high tolerance for warm temperatures is necessary for this position.
Physical Demands
- This position requires the ability to stand for multiple hours at a time, bend, kneel, stoop, and reach; and to be able to open and close the exit vestibule door.
Travel
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience working with the public

Work Schedule:
- Part Time (up to 30 hours scheduled per week)
- Shifts available include:10am-1pm Saturday through Wednesday or 1pm-4pm Saturday through Wednesday
Facility operation hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm Sunday through Saturday year-round. The facility is closed to the public on New Years Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. All other holidays are working holidays for all staff.
