Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our team and maintain our fleet of trucks and equipment. The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on diesel engines, heavy trucks, trailers, and equipment used in the operation of our business. This is a hands-on role requiring a highly motivated individual with strong mechanical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and repair various systems and components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on diesel trucks and equipment, including engines, transmissions, differentials, drive systems, and brakes.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment, ensuring they meet safety and operational standards.
- Troubleshoot issues using diagnostic tools and equipment, identifying root causes of problems and determining necessary repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and work orders in compliance with company policies.
- Conduct vehicle and equipment inspections to identify potential issues and recommend solutions.
- Collaborate with team members and management to ensure the fleet is operating efficiently and downtime is minimized.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform road tests as needed to diagnose malfunctions or verify repairs.
- Operate power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic equipment efficiently and safely.
- Assist in ordering parts and maintaining an inventory of repair parts and supplies.
- Respond to emergency repair requests and perform roadside repairs when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic or similar role, preferably working with fleet vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification from a technical school in diesel mechanics or related field is preferred.
- Licensing: Valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) or the ability to obtain one. ASE certifications (Automotive Service Excellence) are highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment, as well as hand and power tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy parts and tools, bend, crouch, and work in tight spaces for extended periods. Must be able to operate fleet vehicles as needed.
- Availability: Willingness to work occasional overtime, weekends, or on-call shifts as required to meet operational needs.
