The Environmental Impact Teammate reports to the Maintenance-Facilities Supervisor. The Environmental Impact Teammate is responsible for ensuring all operational areas, to include buildings, walkways, fence lines, operational areas are kept in clean and orderly condition, while ensuring that all of his/her efforts are compliant with the company Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. The Environmental Impact Teammate will be required to perform sweeping, weeding, painting, debris disposal, power washing and other operations. Daily activities will be assigned to include sweeping walkways, power washing walls and glass, removing rubbish and debris from the facility, trash bin emptying, and painting of buildings, concrete barriers, and handrails.
This position operates under flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the position. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increase profits.
Salary Range: $20.17/hr - $23.53/hr
Essential Functions
- Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)
- Strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
- Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors.
- Operational Performance & Best Business Practices
- Keep general areas of facility clear of debris, trash, and vegetation,
- Regularly check and empty trash containers at facility.
- By direction of facilities leadership regularly power wash and paint safety barricades, handrails, and buildings around the facility.
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to Schnitzer property.
- Support the overall focus of a World Class and customer friendly facility.
- Perform related duties and projects as directed by supervisor.
- Equipment & Maintenance
- Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Willingness to learn and safely operate forklift and person lift to complete above tasks.
Internal Control Responsibilities
Supports the Company’s Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures, and controls to better relate to the business.
Communicates upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.
Interpersonal Contacts
Direct contact with Maintenance-Facilities Supervisor, and operations production supervisors and employees. Communication via face-to-face interaction required daily.
Job Conditions
This position is regularly exposed to all weather conditions. Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt are present due to the equipment, machinery, and scrap as would be found throughout the scrap yard. Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and additional personal protective equipment as needed, must be worn to eliminate the risks associated with these hazards. Travel is not required for this position.
Handling multiple issues regarding safety and maintenance increases pressure. Workload may be unpredictable and pressure can be substantial during peak times. Critical deadlines require considerable adaptability. Disturbances of workflow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. Extra hours may be required, sometimes on weekends, weekdays, and holidays.
Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions
Ability to: lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally; crouch or bend at the knees occasionally; climbing to reach work site occasionally; stoop or bend at the waist occasionally; reach at arms length frequently or overhead frequently; twist and turn at the neck and trunk frequently; walk frequently on uneven ground; handle and grasp supplies continually; push and pull frequently when sweeping or cleaning; communicate by speech and hearing continually. Visual acuity needed for close detail work. Mental dexterity needed as Environmental Impact Teammate will work independently while demonstrating attention to detail and continuous awareness.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED Certification preferred. Candidates must have the ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Ability to speak and understand English as a basic level required. This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive an automobile.
