SUMMARY:
Supports Shedd’s conservation programs, partnerships, and advocacy outreach. The coordinator will be responsible for organizing and facilitating outreach activities onsite at Shedd and offsite in communities, communicating with partners, and developing and delivering educational content and trainings that support Shedd’s conservation priorities including plastic reduction, climate resiliency, and safeguarding species. Lead coordination of the Let’s Shedd Plastic (LSP) program, which promotes sustainable alternatives to disposable plastic to prevent plastic pollution in local waterways through public education and partnerships with business leaders and local lawmakers.
This two-year term position is full-time and hybrid with significant travel required throughout the Chicago area as well as time onsite at Shedd and working remotely. The position is part of the Conservation Action department with an estimated 30% of the coordinator’s time and projects assigned by the Government Affairs and Policy department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Support collaborative efforts with other Shedd departments, including but not limited to the Corporate Partnerships, Public Engagement, Learning Programs, and Marketing teams.

Execute program operations, including supply management and logistics, program set-up and breakdown, transporting materials from Shedd to program locations, activity instruction, and participant monitoring and engagement.

Build expertise on local conservation issues, plastic pollution, zero waste solutions, food systems, climate change, general sustainable practices, and other related topics.
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Science, Education, or related field or a combination of experience and education/training.

At least one year of successful experience with project delivery, education, event planning, and/or business communications, preferably in a non-profit setting.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and remain flexible and positive despite challenges (e.g., weather conditions, changes in group size, etc.)
