Cape Town: We are recruiting for a Bird and Bat Specialist, with at least 3 years of successful private sector experience across South Africa, professionally registered with SACNASP and ideally with work experience in the renewable energy sector.
The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding attention to detail, have excellent problem-solving abilities and quality control of the highest standard. They should understand and demonstrate how to manage Clients and Projects of International stature and also demonstrate a deep-seated passion for our organizational culture and brand aspiration of "Greening Africa One Project at a Time".
The capacity to diligently, efficiently and effectively manage complex projects, timelines and scenarios will need to be clearly demonstrated as will an inspirational, can-do and people focused leadership ability.
Core qualifications, skills sets and experience must include:
- Species Identification: Ability to identify various bird and bat species based on visual and auditory cues.
- Monitoring Techniques: Proficiency in using monitoring tools.
- Data Collection: Experience in collecting and recording data on bird and bat populations, behaviours and habitats.
- Habitat Assessment: Knowledge of different habitats preferred by birds and bats, and ability to assess habitat quality and suitability for these species.
- Fieldwork Skills: Strong skills in conducting field surveys, including setting up monitoring stations, conducting transects, and following standardized protocols.
- Data Analysis: Capability to analyse monitoring data using statistical tools and software to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
- Report Writing: Effective communication skills to document findings, prepare reports, and present results to stakeholders.
- Conservation Knowledge: Understanding of conservation issues affecting bird and bat populations, and knowledge of conservation strategies and practices.
- Safety Awareness: Adherence to safety protocols while working in the field, including awareness of risks such as wildlife encounters and environmental hazards.
The position is in-house, and Cape Town based and may include travel across Africa.
