BLCAC seeks a full-time Renewables and Climate Action Liaison to develop a strategy for renewable energy and climate action on Bunurong lands.
The Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) seeks to address the rapid development of Renewable Energy projects, related infrastructure, and the pressing need for climate action on Bunurong Traditional Land and Sea Country. BLCAC is looking to employ a full-time Renewables and Climate Action Liaison to develop a comprehensive Renewable Energy and Climate Action Strategy, consulting with the Bunurong Community on the associated threats and opportunities.
The Liaison will work closely with the senior management team to coordinate and consult on the implementation of the Corporation’s climate and energy priorities, in consultation with BLCAC members, industry, government, and the broader community
Position Responsibilities (Include but not limited to -)
- Lead the development of a Renewable Energy and Climate Action Strategy that aligns with the Corporation’s priorities, cultural protocols, and the needs of the Bunurong People.
- Coordinate governance and delivery of renewable energy and climate action projects, ensuring compliance with funding agreements, with timely progress and budget reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including government bodies.
- Lead engagement with industry and government on large-scale renewable energy and climate action initiatives, ensuring that the interests and sustainability of the Bunurong Community are represented.
- Build and strengthen relationships with BLCAC partners, including other Traditional Owner groups, industry, state and local governments, and the wider community to advance climate action.
- Facilitate on-the-ground engagement with Bunurong members, such as workshops, yarns, and Walks On-Country, to foster support, understanding, and participation in renewable energy and climate action projects, in line with the principles of self-determination and informed consent.
- Investigate community energy and climate initiatives that enhance energy security, create economic opportunities, and deliver cost savings for the Bunurong People.
- Secure funding from appropriate sources to support the Corporation’s renewable energy and climate action priorities, ensuring alignment with the principles of self-determination and community consent.
- Advise senior management and collaborative partners to ensure shared understanding and cohesive implementation of renewable energy and climate action objectives.
- Provide regular updates and strategic advice on project progress, budget, and community impact to senior management, the BLCAC Board, and external partners, aligning activities with the Corporation’s long-term vision and climate goals.
Key Competencies
- Expertise in the climate and/or energy sector, with strong communication skills for liaising with industry, government, and community stakeholders.
- Significant experience working with Indigenous communities, particularly Traditional Owner Corporations, and a solid understanding of cultural protocols.
- Proven ability to manage projects, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery, with experience in project governance and program coordination.
- Knowledge of community-scale energy systems and renewable energy solutions that benefit Indigenous communities.
- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently and maintain momentum in uncertain conditions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement, including facilitating community workshops and on-the-ground consultations.
- Experience managing government funding and reporting, including producing required acquittal documentation.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation affecting Indigenous corporations, such as the Native Title Act and Aboriginal Heritage Act.
- Leadership experience, including managing teams and coordinating external consultants.
