The role
The GIS / CAD Technician II is a progressively responsible position in the team that maintains the documentation and mapping of all-electric plant and fiber outside plant assets for the Cooperative and its subsidiaries. This role demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the Cooperative's GIS systems and drawing management processes. This position resides within the YVEA Engineering Department and will report to the GIS/CAD Systems Supervisor.
Key responsibilities
- Responsible for using safe work practices at all times and in all situations.
- Leads in maintaining the Association's geographical information system (GIS) databases.
- Leads in maintaining the Associations electrical network connectivity data model from Substation to meter, and fiber optic network connectivity data model from headend to subscriber. This includes all connectivity features in the GIS database.
- Assists in maintaining all necessary tie fields to all other Association's databases, including CIS/Connect, ABS, DEW, OMS, Windmill, SCADA, and all others specified by GIS/CAD Supervisor. Provides technical assistance in system design, integration, and maintenance of GIS upgrades. Includes implementation of new systems, identification, and resolution of existing problems.
- Leads in maintaining the Association's physical and electronic CAD drawings. Organizes and maintains the Cooperative's drawing management system.
- Leads in maintaining the Associations published map services. This includes all map services for use in and out of the Association.
- Leads in verifying correct mapping information from staking sheets and maintaining a work order reference in the Association's GIS.
- Integrates redlines into existing designs to reflect build-out from internal team and from vendors or contractors.
- Assists Right of Way staff with preparing exhibits and maps required for obtaining and documenting right of ways, easements, and other permits.
- Leads Engineering in mapping outside plant, as-built drawings, and reconciling work orders to plant. This includes doing flow checks to maintain the electric data model, and fiber optic data model connectivity.
- Assists Cooperative staff assembling data and exhibits as needed for grant applications and record-keeping requirements.
- Leads in mapping net metering and distributed generation installations within the service territory.
- Leads in providing other departments with any needed GIS and CIS mapping information.
- Prepares and updates charts, graphs and record of system growth, productivity, and quality of service.
- Monitors addition and removal of joint use attachments on system maps and records.
