The New York Climate Exchange (The Exchange) is a new not-for-profit designed to accelerate climate solutions. Our diverse coalition of partners—committed and prepared to collectively disrupt the status quo—incorporates local and global perspectives on climate change from academia, the private sector, and community-level organizations; this multidisciplinary coalition speaks to the collaboration necessary to unlock integrated and scalable approaches to climate change. While The Exchange will be headquartered at a dedicated campus on Governors Island, its spirit and influence extends beyond the Island into New York City and across the country and world.
The Exchange is seeking an experienced Strategic Planning Consultant to facilitate a strategic planning process to guide the first years of our new organization’s strategy and growth. The consultant will work closely with our leadership team to develop a clear and actionable strategic plan that aligns with our mission and goals, provides a measurable framework to track progress, outlines the organization’s programmatic areas of focus, and supports budget planning and fundraising for the organization’s work prior to the opening of our physical campus on Governors Island (expected early 2029). This is a contract position with an expected duration of 5 months. The expected deliverable will be a Strategic Plan that will be presented to The Exchange’s Board of Directors at the end of Q1 and will also be used as an internal document to guide planning and management of the organization.
Tasks are anticipated to include:
Design and facilitate workshops and meetings with internal and select external stakeholders to gather input and build consensus. Meetings will include, but are not limited to, serving as a facilitator of several planned 1-day organizational retreats.
Support the leadership team in defining key strategic priorities and a path to achieve them, including refining existing documentation and inputs, articulating actionable and measurable goals and objectives, and mapping existing and needed resources.

Resume and/or portfolio of projects demonstrating relevant strategic planning experience, of particular interest is experience creating nonprofit strategic plans, in particular plans that were successfully implemented working in collaboration with New York City Government Agencies.
Proposed approach, including overall engagement strategy, key milestones, the structure of deliverables, and fee. A total project fee is preferred, however please include hourly rates for all staff.
Preference will be given to reviewing proposals received by November 1, 2024.
