Sr. Instrumentation and Controls Engineer

Position Summary
The Sr. Instrumentation and Controls Engineer position is responsible for the engineering of instrumentation and control solutions for industrial equipment and facilities. Experience in Oil and Gas, Hydrogen, LNG or related Hydrocarbon processes is required. This individual is expected to function in this capacity with minimal supervision and exchange information, instructions and ideas with other functional groups.
Primary Duties
- Participate in design teams for projects involving the design of compressors, packaged equipment, and hydrogen liquefaction process systems and facilities.
- Coordinates standard discipline engineering activities on projects with minimal supervision.
- Development of P&IDs in collaboration with process team.
- Work with vendors to specify instrumentation based on design inputs and criteria.
- Generate and complete instrument datasheets.
- Develop/review of specifications and calculations.
- Develop design documentation (installation details, instrument index, databases, I/O lists, panel drawings, wiring and loop diagrams, control narratives, cause & effect diagrams, junction boxes drawings and cable tray layouts, etc.).
- Develop/review of documentation including alternative analyses, acceptance test procedures, and software validation and verification.
- Identify issues (problems, value improvement opportunities) and help clarify areas of complexity during all phases of the engineering design work.
- Review and approve suppliers’ design and engineering documentation and drawings.
- Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, PHA reviews and contribute to resolution of recommended action items.
- Actively participate in programming, configuration, and FAT / SAT of control systems and process packages.
- Actively participate in the development of Process Control Strategy and Cause & Effects development.
- Assist in commissioning and startup.
Secondary Duties
- Procure and expedite instrumentation, control valves and control and shutdown systems.
- Participate in proposal and R&D efforts for marketing support.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Experience: 8+ years of experience on the Engineering & Construction Contractor or Process Equipment Supplier side of Instrumentation and Control Systems, including field instruments (flow, level, pressure, temperature, analyzer specifications, datasheets, and calculations), as well as the systems & controls side (DCS, PLC, SIS, etc.).
- Working knowledge of applicable industrial codes and standards: API, ISA, NFPA, PIP
- Ability to travel as needed to carry out duties of the position – up to 30%
