13526 – Energy Storage / BESS Project Engineer (onsite) – Juno Beach, FL

Estimated Duration:12 months with possible extensions
Work Setting: 100% of the time at the Client’s site. No telecommuting or remote work.
BESS Project Engineer Required:
• Availability to work 100% of the time at the Client’s site in Juno Beach, FL (required);
• Experience with BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) and PV (Photovoltaic) Plant Controls: Strong understanding of these systems, including industry standards and best practices for code development;
• Experience overseeing change management practices to ensure the deployment of updated library code;
• Experience creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation for engineering rationales and updates related to the BESS and PV control code library;
• Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) processes to validate system operability before commissioning;
• Experience coordinating with system integrators and stakeholders to ensure alignment with best practices and successful implementation of control systems.
BESS Project Engineer Responsibilities:
• Create, update, and manage the control code library for BESS and PV systems, incorporating industry best practices and lessons learned;
• Produce detailed documentation that explains the rationale behind changes to the BESS master library, ensuring clarity for future modifications;
• Manage change practices to ensure integrators can access the latest code versions and adhere to updated protocols;
• Assist in creating a Factory Acceptance Test template for BESS and PV assets to validate Plant Control functionality and readiness for commissioning;
• Monitor code implementation to verify that it meets operational standards and incorporates feedback from lessons learned;
• Work closely with system integrators, engineers, and project teams to ensure alignment and successful deployment of the control code library;
• Regularly update the control code library with best practices, staying informed about new trends and technologies in BESS and PV systems.
Energy Storage Project Engineer Required:
• Availability to work 100% of the time at the Client’s site in Juno Beach, FL (required);
• Engineering experience (7+ years);
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Mechanical engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program.
Energy Storage Project Engineer Preferred:
• Experience working as an SME in substation or utility-scale energy storage design and/or project management;
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Power Electronics- Battery storage system design;
- Substation design;
- Generation tie design;
• Experience in the design and/or operation of large-scale power generation or processing plants;
• Experience with technologies in energy storage including varying battery chemistries, power conversion units, and DC/DC converters;
• Experience with UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, applicable IFC/IBC sections.
Energy Storage Project Engineer Responsibilities:
• Perform detailed design engineering of major components for large-scale energy storage augmentation projects;
• Prepare technical scopes of work for incorporation into contract documents;
• Support projects from conception through execution, working closely with early-stage and construction project managers;
• Influence project teams in the engineering aspects of the technical work, including close collaboration with and oversight of external Engineers of Record;
• Maintain familiarity with the progress and problems in assigned technical areas;
• Collaborate with suppliers to successfully integrate major equipment;
• Collaborate with multi-disciplined teams for problem-solving, process improvement opportunities, and system integration and controls.
