What you’ll do
You will be at the forefront of battery system development to improve the attributes of our next-generation fully electric and hybrid vehicles. Your responsibilities as a Thermal System Simulation Engineer are to develop analysis methods for evaluating customer usage and the outer boundaries of batteries from a thermal point of view. The work is cross-functional, which involves cooperation with colleagues within the battery department as well as engineers across Volvo Cars.
This role will also involve:
- Perform complete vehicle system simulations to evaluate the impact on the battery and its attributes such as range, power performance and thermal aspects.
- Provide recommendations of design changes to component designers for the product to meet component/system requirements.
- Develop and utilize 1-D and 3-D simulation methods for hardware components as well as complete battery systems including software control.
- Initiate physical testing and analyze the results for validation of the simulation methods.
- Create technical documentation of the methods and reports of the analyses.
- Present the work to team members and stakeholders outside the team.
- Keep track of state-of-art of simulation technology and explore innovative ways to improve and automate daily way of working.
- Coordinate internal and external work with other departments and suppliers.
What you'll bring
You have a genuine interest and curiosity in thermal analyses and engineering. You are a team player with solid communications skills and the ability to a build solid network. You have a strong analytical mindset with the ability to take vital actions when required. Your technical competence and your interaction with different teams create a great atmosphere for innovative solutions.
We believe you have:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of work experience from thermal system simulations within automotive or related field
- Deep understanding and theoretical knowledge with thermal 3D CFD simulations, preferably in Star CCM+
- Proficiency in system simulation tools such as GT-SUITE and MATLAB/Simulink
- Experience in control system development, and programming skills with Python, Java, and MATLAB
It’s a bonus if you have:
- Good understanding of battery technologies from previous experience
- Pre-processing experience with the tools Star-CCM+ 3D-CAD or ANSA
