The Principal – Growth Strategy and Project fundamentals (GS&PF) will report to the Sr. Director of Strategy and Planning on the Organic Growth team. They will lead the Definition of the Overarching Onshore Growth Plan for New Build and Repowers. They will provide leadership defining and tracking the short-term department goals (new MW to add, where and when, new Interconnection request to file, when and where, Repower priorities definition) for all the Regional Managers and SME (Interconnection, Permitting, Land Management.)
They will lead the ongoing Market and Pipeline competitive analysis to ensure we have the optimal regional strategy and the best projects to meet our FID goals.
They should have a holistic view across the department, coordinating across the various teams in the department (greenfield development, interconnection, permitting, land management) to provide the Sr. Dir and VP OG with aligned recommendations and proposals from the team, from the macro level (for ex, changes to the US Development Strategy) to the micro level (for ex, project-specific decisions).
Define development New Build and Repowers Growth Plan
Translate the Long Term Outlook (LTO) provided at AREN level in to a specific overarching growth plan for the Organic Growth team. This growth plan will be the foundation for the rest of the onshore renewable’s teams (Origination, Projects, Purchasing, Legal etc) as Development is the first step of the value chain:
- Define Pipeline Size (MW), Priority Markets, Priority Repower projects, Regional pipeline distribution (MW/Market), Technology (Solar, Wind, BESS) and resources needed to accomplish the plan (FTEs, Budget).
- Define short term annual regional goals for each regional Greenfield Dev Sr. Director and Interconnection regional Manager
- Greenfield MW to be added to the pipeline in each region.
- Number of Projects and MW to be added to the interconnection queue in each region.
- Repower FID priorities
- Identify gaps and anticipate risk and challenges providing tactical solutions. (Greenfield acquisitions, reinforce areas, Pivot to new markets, Pivot among Repowers, etc)
Markets and Policy Analysis and Strategy:
The New Growth and Project Fundamentals Principal collaborates with different internal and external groups and departments (Developers, Origination, Development Engineering, Investment Office, Origination, Projects, Fundamentals, Policy and Regulation, etc.) on perform a recurrent analysis of the different markets on the US to identify growth opportunities, Competitive advantages and Challenges in order to define the Overarching regional growth strategy.
- Drive analysis that incorporates information from multiple internal and external groups and departments (engineering, capex, origination, permitting, interconnection, transmission, policy) to ensure project competitiveness and increasing success rates.
- Develop and maintain, with other groups, commercial and competitive intelligence for the multiple development regions.
- Ongoing assessment on Market trends, Technologies (for ex evolution of BESS), Regulatory changes on all the US's wholesale regulated and deregulated utility and power sectors.
- Track competitors’ activities and provide recommendations
- Manage and communicate the ITC/PTC Strategy to the Growth teams: Coordinate with Federal Regulatory Affairs and Tax teams and VP to understand the ITC/PTC regulations and guidance. Provide recommendations on strategy to maximize and maintain tax credits. Prepare educational materials to communicate strategy and ITC/PTC requirements to the entire Organic Growth team, including on Energy Community bonuses, Domestic Content Bonuses, Prevailing Wage/Apprenticeship Requirements and Transferability. Record and track Safe harbor strategy and corresponding COD deadlines, as well as for ITC/PTC bonus credits for energy communities and Domestic Content
Pipeline Competitiveness ongoing assessment:
Ongoing competitiveness assessment of our pipeline to ensure we develop projects that will be successful.
- Drive analysis that incorporates information from multiple groups and departments (engineering, capex, origination, permitting, interconnection, and transmission) to ensure project competitiveness and increasing rates of success.
- Identify all relevant variables that drive the competitiveness of each project (technical economical, offtake possibilities, development status, interconnection, permitting financing etc.).
- Drive benchmark and competitiveness analysis across projects in particular regions to identify risks and opportunities.
- Latest DEVEX and drivers
- Latest CAPEX and drivers
- Latest Economics and drivers
- Determine, together with the Strategy and Planning lead, each project strategy as a result of this analysis: Keep Developing, Freeze until market condition changes, Propose for monetization, propose for termination.
- Perform Ad-hoc and highly complex studies to find market competitive edges with each Subject Market expert. (for ex, develop Interconnection queue cost and competitors analysis, Transmission Competitors Analysis, CAPEX comparisons, etc)
- Ensure preparation of concise materials to present recommendations to the top management for decision making.
Asset Monetizations – Corporate Development
Support the Sr Director of Strategy and Planning on the interaction with Corp Development and the preparation of the needed materials to Market projects for potential monetizations and other Corp Dev initiatives.
- Coordinate with all the SMEs to update Teasers and preparate data rooms.
- Consolidate coherent responses to bidders among teams. Senior review of responses to 3rd parties.
Others key activities:
- Lead key ad-hoc department initiatives (for ex leading the consolidation of the Strategy materials for Special projects (for ex, bold development opportunities)
- Continuous improvement of department tools and collaborate on the deployment of new tools and system (produced in house or provided by third parties) providing key performance indicators and training sessions to ensure tools are understood and used per established policies.
- Processes Documentation and improvement: Definition of department processes for documentation and ISO certification. Lead the Definition of the requirements and the implementation to migrate some of our departmental tools to new software platforms, to increase our efficiency and reduce errors.
- Provide support to Development and Origination teams on ppt, reports, regulatory analysis and impacts, other ad-hoc task.
- Monthly O&D briefing preparation (meeting with 100+ people in Origination, Development, technical and support teams).
Requirements:
Degree in Engineering, Business or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10-15 years’ experience working in the renewables industry (Development, Construction, Financial analysis, Policy). Renewables market expert.
- Proven deep understanding of renewables market, with an holistic view of the competitive levers and key variables for Development success.
- Customer service focus and professional, confident phone presence.
- Pro-active, detail oriented, results-driven, with organized work techniques.
- Ability to motivate others and maintain positive team environment
- Strong Excel, VBA, Word, SAP, PowerPoint, Power BI, skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Spanish recommended
- International assignment experience recommended
