Project summary
The Maine Service Fellows program helps rural communities by tackling their critical needs. Additionally, the program increases the opportunities for recent college graduates to devote a year of service to communities and use their skills to make a difference; attracts and retains people with a passion for public service, especially in rural areas; and strengthens civic engagement and community resilience by involving community residents as well as Service Fellows in volunteer-based solutions.
Opportunity description
You will significantly expand the ability of the all-volunteer Cherryfield Riverwalk Committee to plan, implement, and sustain the long-time community vision to build prosperity by enhancing and stewarding a section of the Narraguagus River that runs through Cherryfield's historic village. Activities include developing a citizen science program; and developing and sharing outreach and education materials, including interpretive installations around the Riverwalk.

Requirements and qualifications
Requirements
Be at least 20 years of age; Have completed a college degree (associates, undergraduate, or graduate school) within the last five years; Be eligible to work in the United States; Pass a background check that includes a criminal history record check; and Live in the community impacted by the Service Fellow project.
Preferred qualifications
Ability and comfort with working with people, particularly youth, and groups of people. Ability and willingness to reach out and build relationships with community members. Strong written, verbal, and graphic communication skills. Comfort with working independently and ability to be self-directed and take initiative. Proficiency, or ability to learn, basic web platforms such as Wordpress, Facebook, and Canva.
