JOB SUMMARY
The Farm Equipment Operator/Mechanic performs all mechanical maintenance on fleet equipment, including, but not limited to, trucks, trailers, belt presses and event agricultural equipment (containers, loading apparatus, farm tractors, hydraulic systems, diesel engines and wheel loaders).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide timely and efficient service to Synagro vehicles and equipment
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, recondition, and service equipment systems and components or make sure they get to the correct vendor of repair
- Communicate findings and make recommendations to management
- Comply with all DOT regulations, including timely and accurate submission of Driver Daily Logs, completion of a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) and thorough compliance with all applicable Federal and Local laws pertaining to motor carriers
- Perform daily inspection and required preventative maintenance
- Operate truck in a safe manner at all times
- Maintain professional company image over the road by practicing safe and courteous driving at all times and using only approved haul routes
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Comply with all applicable Federal, State and Local laws pertaining to motor carriers, DOT rules and regulations
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Basic welding knowledge
- Must be competent in fuel systems, engine groups, and failure analysis
- Operate hand tools and/or power hand tools in a safe and efficient manner
- Ascend and descend stairs and ladders as part of normal work activity as well as crawling, squatting, bending, and climbing on and off vehicles
- Ability to lift up to 100lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to rebuild equipment and vehicle electrical experience
- Ability to keep and maintain electronic and local hard copy equipment files
- Enter all work orders electronically
- Ability to work overtime
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required
- 2 – 4 years’ mechanical and electrical experience with heavy trucks, trailers, heavy equipment
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Shop based environment with various operating machines. Talking, Hearing, Seeing, Sitting, Standing, Walking, Feeling, Grasping, Climbing, and Lifting up to 100lbs.
- The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A) preferred.
