Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applications for the position of Environmental Health and Safety Director (MGR180).
The Environmental Health and Safety Director will be proactive in leading EHS culture across the University. The EHS Director will be responsible for developing, coordinating, evaluating and executing related University programs, procedures and policies that will ensure the health and safety of faculty, staff, students and visitors. In accordance with federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulatory compliance, this professional will partner with internal stakeholders to address and provide solutions for complex technical areas such as hazard control, risk management, occupational safety and health, radiation protection, and will assist in control of overall health and safety concerns and environmental impacts known and unknown at the university, while supporting daily operations and proactively implementing, managing and enforcing appropriate safety practices campus wide.
This is a non-represented management position.
Position Qualifications
MINIMUM:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Science, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health or related discipline.
- 2-4 years experience as an environmental health and safety professional.
PREFERRED: - Master's Degree in industrial hygiene or the physical sciences preferred.
- 5+ years of related experience.
- At least 2-4 years’ experience developing and managing projects, programs, and leading committees.
- Demonstrated experience working with regulatory agencies (i.e., DEP, EPA).
- Strong oral and written communications skills; capable of communicating EHS specific information clearly to a wide range of internal and external audiences, strong presentation and training skills.
Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well in the interview(s).
Essential Functions
The work of this position occurs in a typical office environment. Although infrequent, periods of heavy exertion may occur. Incumbent must have the following abilities:
- Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, professional, harmonious working relationships with others.
- This position requires work outside normal business hours including evenings and weekends as needed to partner effective, provide prompt customer service and/or as requested by senior HR management.
- Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
- Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the general public.
- Use of variety of common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, auxiliary printers, and similar equipment.
- Perform manual duties such as lifting and carrying various weight limits.
- Duties performed may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
- Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers.
