Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Health is seeking a team member to perform a combination of duties in the support of Environmental Health in the Commonwealth. This is primarily a grant funded, part time position (maximum of 32 hours per week) supporting the Office of Environmental Health Services - Division of Shellfish Safety and Waterborne Hazards. Job duties will include but are not limited to assisting the Marina Program, Beach Monitoring and Notification Program, General Environmental Health Program support, grant and project management and administration, along with other duties as assigned.
Marina Program Duties (24 hrs/week):
1. Digitizing files, data archiving, and site visits with OEHS Staff.
2. Database management, filing reports, process marina applications, construction requests, and VMRC applications.
3. Assists with grant and project management of the CVA and BIG grants, conducts environmental reviews, supports grant marketing activities, and district staff training in the marina regulations.
4. Overnight travel may be required to represent VDH at boat shows, conferences, and training events.
Beach Program Duties (8 hrs/week):
1. Assist with EPA beach monitoring and notification grant submissions.
2. Coordinate with six health districts to ensure timely and complete documentation submittals for reimbursement processing.
General Administrative Duties:
1. Complete procurement of goods and services through approved State and Federal guidelines, working with other agencies.
2. Assists with data requests, database entry, timekeeping reporting, and project reviews.
3. Assists with other grant management activities within the Office of Environmental Health Services.
Minimum Qualifications
• Experience in creating reports, data entry and effective communication
• Proficient in basic computer software programs
• Ability to conduct inspections and investigations in all areas of environmental health, to work outdoors and perform moderately strenuous physical labor during all seasons
• Critical thinking skills
• Ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds
• A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency
