The Chemical Sciences and Engineering (CSE) Division is seeking a Staff Scientist/Engineer, who under the guidance of a supervisor will conduct fundamental research in electrochemical energy storage systems to support the battery performance and cost modeling (BatPaC) team.
Project activities of the team involve physical, chemical, and electrochemical characterization and multiscale mathematical modeling of advanced battery and other energy storage technologies.
The candidate will establish relationships between the physical/chemical/thermodynamic/electrochemical phenomenon, and mass/heat transport, to determine the performance of lithium-ion & advanced batteries and energy storage pathways and follow through with economic analysis.
In this role, the candidate will plan and conduct research on multiscale models for performance, life and cost of energy storage devices, with emphasis on electrochemical options such as lithium-ion or related electrochemical batteries or energy storage devices, using COMSOL, Matlab, Python, Excel and other tools.
Knowledge of chemical processes and understanding of process scale-up will be valuable to support techno-economic analysis within the team.
The candidate will develop multi-scale models of process and electrochemical models; collect and interpret data from colleagues in the laboratories or literature; analyze the results generated from the models; prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications; present papers at scientific meetings; and prepare reports, presentations, and papers for group meetings or meeting sponsor reporting requirements.
