Reporting to our Head of Legal based in London, the chosen applicant will work in a team of two other lawyers and closely with SCB’s Carbon desks in London and Switzerland. This role is ideally suited for an individual who is eager to learn, has an ownership mentality, and thrives in a team-focused, fast-paced environment.
Our headquarters are in Nyon, Switzerland supported by four global offices located in London, Chicago, Puerto Rico and Singapore. Our London office opened in 2011 and has approximately 30 of the firm’s 100 staff.
Who We Look For
Applicants should be interested in a career within the environmental, commodity or financial markets. Here is who we look for:
- Seven years plus legal experience including training.
- Extensive commercial contracts experience.
- Above average technical ability to navigate a variety of IT packages.
- Two Years or more experience of the Voluntary Carbon Market or Compliance in the Carbon Markets.
- Experience of commodity or other markets a plus.
- Regulated company experience a plus.

- Legal right to live and work in the UK.
- Fluent English (French a strong plus).
What You Will Do
Responsibilities will include:
- Draft and negotiate commercial contracts for a global client base in the Voluntary Carbon Market to extend to Carbon Offsets and Environmental Attribute Certificates (GO’s, RECs, IRECs, RGGOs, REGOs). While in a team, this work must be done to a standard that doesn’t require supervision. Once drafted, and verified, the applicant will manage these contracts through the execution process (to include loading onto the DocuSign platform) and then internal filing.
- Where necessary work with External Counsel on matters related to commercial contracts in the Voluntary Carbon Market, combining their advice with your own analysis and feedback from internal stakeholders to provide practical guidance.
- Assist with implementing effective risk management techniques to mitigate legal risks and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues.
- Ensure the company’s compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards across international jurisdictions where the company operates in Carbon Markets
- Research on best practice contracts in Voluntary Carbon; Maintain and update existing Master Service Agreements, contract templates and overall contracting processes.
- Ability to tailor advice briefly, simply, and persuasively to the most junior and senior levels of the organization.
- Engaging with colleagues to explain aspects of our contracts, and gain feedback to improve our documentation and approach.
- Ability to anticipate, de-escalate, and resolve disagreements and complaints in a practical and constructive manner in order to achieve results.
- Support for RFPs and Tenders: Assist the Climate Solutions desk in participating in Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and tenders from corporations, ensuring deadlines are met and providing necessary legal insights during the process.
- Risk Identification within Corporate RFPs: Timely identification of risks related to SCB’s commitments, including legal concerns over RFP process adherence, property rights requests, and managing legal documentation in languages other than English.
- Regulatory Frameworks: Staying closely updated on developments in the Article 6 framework of the Paris Agreement, the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), and other areas where the Voluntary Carbon Market intersects with compliance mechanisms. This will ensure the structuring of comprehensive origination and sale contracts that safeguard the company from legal risks arising from changes in governmental and compliance frameworks.
