Your contribution!
We are looking for a Senior Counsel to join us! A transactional and international tax expert with experience in the renewable energy sector, particularly for Canada, the United States, France and Chile.
Your day-to-day!
- Review and interpret domestic and international tax laws relevant to the countries in which Innergex (the "Corporation") operates.
- Monitor changes in domestic and international tax legislation and their potential impact on the Corporation.
- Prepare summaries of budgets and legislative changes relevant to taxation for the Corporation.
- Participate in representations and representations within the framework of consultations or other processes leading to the adoption of tax legislation, and maintain positive relations with government tax authorities and other stakeholders.
- Establish/design/maintain a process for reviewing the tax aspects of major contracts signed by the Corporation.
- Design and implement tax reference/training tools according to the needs of the Taxation Department and the various departments.
- Issue certain tax opinions on subjects relevant to the Corporation.
- Review the tax aspects of an investment project or reorganization in Canada or abroad ("M&A").
- Collaborate with the M&A taxation team and other departments to assess the tax impact of commercial transactions, contracts, acquisitions and disposals.
- Work with other members of the M&A team to provide tax advice on investment, financing and repatriation of funds to support Innergex projects.
- Communicate/present M&A project structures using PowerPoint presentations.
- Support the treasury department in inter-jurisdictional fund transfers.
- Coordinate the legal documentation required for various cross-border transactions.
- Review M&A financial models and their tax implications.
- Coordinate M&A mandates and review certain aspects of external consultants' work.
- Integrate the tax consequences of acquisitions and reorganizations into the Corporation's financial projections.
- Collaborate in the development and implementation of transfer pricing policies.
- Design and implement effective tax strategies to optimize tax benefits for renewable energy projects and maximize the Corporation's overall tax efficiency.
- Participate in the development of strategic advice for the management team on domestic and international tax issues in the renewable energy fields.
- Review or research and document tax positions of interest to the Corporation.
- Participate in all tax-related work in collaboration with other members of the Taxation department.
- Propose solutions for the continuous improvement of processes and tools useful to the Taxation department or the Corporation.
Your skills, our requirements!
- University degree and master's degree in taxation.
- Undergraduate degree in law or accounting and recognized qualification.
- Completed graduate studies in taxation.
- Minimum 7 years' experience in corporate taxation or with a major Canadian or international law or accounting firm.
- In-depth knowledge of tax and international regulations in the above-mentioned countries.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency in relevant accounting and tax software.
- ERP knowledge.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage several projects simultaneously.
- Ability to maintain a high level of precision and attention to detail in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Bilingualism (French and English, written and spoken) is required to ensure collaboration with different stakeholders outside of Québec on a regular basis. Spanish an asset.

- The position is based in the company's Longueuil (Quebec) headquarters, steps away from the Longueuil-Université de Sherbrooke metro station.
- This position is a P4 level.
