About the Role:
The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety programs across our EPC projects, with a strong emphasis on solar energy projects. This role requires a qualified individual who can foster a safety-first culture, ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry best practices, manage subcontractor safety, and oversee critical safety processes, including fleet safety, PPE management, OSHA compliance, workers' compensation management support, and safety training tracking. This is a “feet-on-the ground” position with site visits expected 50% or more each week.
Key Responsibilities:
• Safety Program Development: Design and implement comprehensive safety programs tailored to EPC and solar energy projects, ensuring alignment with company policies and industry standards.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all solar projects comply with OSHA (including OSHA Construction 10 Compliance), EPA, DOT, and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations, with a particular focus on those specific to the solar energy industry and construction sectors.
• Subcontractor Safety Management: Oversee and enforce safety policies and procedures for all subcontractors on project sites. Ensure subcontractors are properly trained, equipped, and compliant with all safety regulations and company standards.
• PPE Management: Oversee the selection, distribution, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on all project sites, ensuring compliance with safety standards and project-specific requirements.
• AED Management: Ensure Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are available, properly maintained, and that personnel are trained in their use across all project sites.
• OSHA Reporting & Compliance: Manage OSHA recordkeeping, reporting requirements, and compliance with OSHA Construction 10 standards, ensuring timely and accurate submission of all necessary documentation and reports.
• Workers' Compensation Management Support: Collaborate with HR and legal teams to support workers' compensation claims, ensuring accurate documentation and facilitating return-to-work programs.
• Inspection Logs & Documentation: Maintain detailed inspection logs for all safety-related activities, ensuring that all findings, corrective actions, and follow-ups are thoroughly documented and tracked.
• Job Safety Analyses (JSAs): Develop, review, and implement Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) for all major tasks, ensuring that all potential hazards are identified, assessed, and mitigated before work begins.
• Project Safety Execution Plans (PSEPs) & Project Safety Plans: Create and enforce Project Safety Execution Plans (PSEPs) and Project Safety Plans that outline safety protocols, emergency procedures, and risk management strategies specific to each solar project.
• Fleet Safety Management: Oversee the safety of the company’s vehicle fleet, ensuring all vehicles are properly maintained, equipped, and compliant with safety regulations. Implement fleet safety programs to reduce accidents and improve driver safety.
• Approved Drivers Program: Manage and maintain a list of approved drivers, ensuring all drivers meet company standards, possess the necessary qualifications, and undergo regular safety training.
• Driver Safety: Develop and implement driver safety programs, including regular training, monitoring, and performance assessments to ensure safe driving practices across all project sites.
• Safety Handbooks & Policy Training: Develop, distribute, and ensure adherence to safety handbooks and related policies. Provide comprehensive training on safety policies, procedures, and standards across all levels of the organization.
• Safety Training Tracking: Implement and manage a system to track all safety training activities, ensuring that all employees are up-to-date with required training and certifications. Provide regular reports on training compliance and effectiveness.
• Risk Assessment: Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments on solar project sites to identify potential hazards, and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
• Incident Investigation: Lead thorough investigations of all safety incidents, near misses, and accidents on solar projects, ensuring accurate documentation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions are completed promptly.
• Training & Development: Develop and deliver safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and stakeholders involved in solar energy projects, focusing on the unique risks associated with solar installations. Ensure training covers operator certifications and CDL requirements.
• Project Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, field personnel, and subcontractors to integrate safety practices into the planning, execution, and completion phases of solar projects.
• Safety Metrics & Reporting: Establish and monitor safety performance metrics specific to solar energy projects, reporting findings to senior management and recommending improvements where necessary.
• Emergency Response Planning: Develop and implement emergency response plans specific to solar project sites, ensuring readiness for any potential emergency situations.
• DOT Compliance: Oversee compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including CDL requirements, ensuring all transportation-related activities on project sites meet federal and state guidelines.
• Sustainability Integration: Collaborate with sustainability teams to incorporate safety considerations into solar energy initiatives, aligning with company goals and the broader mission of environmental stewardship.
• Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related communications with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies, particularly in the context of solar energy projects.
Desired Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of safety management experience in the EPC industry, with a focus on solar energy projects, subcontractor management, fleet safety, and safety training tracking.
• Knowledge: In-depth understanding of OSHA regulations, including OSHA Construction 10 Compliance, EPA guidelines, DOT requirements, solar energy industry standards, subcontractor safety management best practices, fleet safety, driver safety, and PPE requirements.
• Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence and drive a safety culture across all levels of the organization.
• Travel: Willingness to frequently travel to various solar project sites as needed, sometimes on short notice.
• Ability to work onsite in Malta, NY Monday-Friday
• Unrestricted work authorization for the US and high written and verbal English proficiency

Compensation:
The likely compensation range for this position is $80,000-$110,000 plus a discretionary bonus based on individual and business performance. Your actual salary may be above, in, or below this range, depending on your qualifications and experience.
