Role SummaryThis role will work directly with design engineers to set component GD&T schemes, tolerance features, and analyze assembly tolerance stack ups. A successful candidate will work closely with manufacturing teams and suppliers to communicate and approve assembly tolerances which meet capability targets. The role will also review and approve metrology methods, oversee builds and initial inspection reports, and review and analyze measurement data to validate dimensional capability.
Responsibilities- Work upfront in the design process to develop and assess feasibility of design tolerances for key battery components and sub-assemblies.
- Cross-functional development and documentation of assembly datum schemes to ensure robust component fabrication, qualification, and assembly manufacture.
- Pilot metrology equipment to take measurements and generate reports of parts and equipment in development builds.
- Perform part and assembly tolerance stack analysis (DVA) against internal Cpk/Ppk targets.
- Track and report dimensional health metrics such as completion, Cpk, and other dimensional KPIs.
- Development of key product maturation tools to be used in conjunction with quality loops to drive towards product excellence during new product introduction.
- Definition, procurement, and commissioning of lab-based and in-production line metrology tools for accurate and repeatable characterization of key product and process specifications.
- Oversee measurement routines to ensure acceptance into the Rivian Measurement Reporting System.
- Develop reports and work with Factory Data Operations to produce dashboards to visualize metrology data in insightful ways.
- Root Cause launch issues in a data driven way.
- Lead dimensional verifications at each development build phase.
- Participate in Virtual and production Build events.
Qualifications- BS or higher in engineering.
- CAD & GD&T proficiency – CATIA preferred.
- Expertise in both 1D and 3D tolerance stack analysis, 3DCS preferred.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis software such as JMP or minitab.
- Passion for problem solving with the ability to methodically root cause issues by following a first principles approach.
- Ability to make data driven decisions and demonstrate good analytical skills
- Proficiency with statistical qualification of machinery, equipment, and gages, and the ability to improve and document our methods for completing these tasks.
- Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to collaboratively work with and influence cross-functional departments both internally and externally.

- Willingness to travel, especially during times of peak demand.
Pay DisclosureSalary Range for California Based Candidates: $107,800.00 - $134,800.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
