Job Overview:
Location: Sherwood Park, Calgary, or Grande Prairie
As a Junior Environmental Scientist, you will be responsible for:
- Providing field support for environmental site assessments (ESAs) and remediation projects, including soil and groundwater assessments, with on-site mentoring from senior field staff
- Undertaking groundwater monitoring and sampling for various facilities
- File completion, organization of field data, interpretation of laboratory results and report writing
- Competing file reviews, site inspections and preparations of Phase 1 and 2 Environmental Site Assessment reports, remediation reports and groundwater monitoring reports
- Developing work plans and cost estimates for assessment and remediation projects, incorporating a risk-based approach
- Completing file reviews for simple to complex contaminated brownfield sites requiring application of “outside the box” thinking to pragmatic and technically-defensible recommendations for a path forward
- Accurate field cost tracking of expenses and contractors
What You Bring:
- A bachelor degree in environmental sciences or similar.
- Example of relevant coursework include: Soil Remediation, Environmental Protection, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Geotechnics, Hydrology, Environmental Law, or Engineering Technical Communications.
- A critical and creative thinker that can find and apply innovative solutions.
- Ability to work effectively both in a team setting and independently.
- A consistent high performer that proactively seeks mentorship with a desired outcome to be vetted in a field leadership role.
- Ability to complete field work while maintaining quality of processes and deliverables is considered an asset.
- Motivation to learn and consistently improve processes and tools
- A background in coding or data management considered an asset.
- Ability to make responsible decisions with the support of senior staff members.
- A clear and effective communicator with strong written and verbal communications
