We are seeking a Director of Environmental Health & Safety (“EH&S”) to join our Team! This role is a key company leader who will have a direct impact on the health and welfare of every single employee. The position oversees strategic development and implementation of behavior-based safety practices, audits functions for health and safety procedure implementation, ensures compliance with corporate, OSHA, and client safety requirements, and conducts cause analysis of health and safety incidents. The Director monitors and documents the effectiveness of safety control measures used throughout the company and directs Safety Professionals in the implementation of The Corporate Health and Safety Program. The position will manage the development of site-specific health and safety plans for construction projects. The position will work closely with the operations leaders and other stakeholders.
In this role you will:
- Develop and administer our safety program to ensure compliance, accountability and promote a proactive safety culture
- Identify and communicate workplace hazards
- Conduct on-site workplace inspections to identify workplace hazards
- Conduct accident investigations, reviews ,and root cause analyses
- Identify undesirable trends and make recommendations for corrective actions and organizational change as needed
- Work with individual supervisors to improve their operational safety
- Implement and maintain emergency response plans, including crisis management escalation
- Ensure our safety program is updated consistently to comply with all applicable regulations.
- Maintain and periodically review risk management systems
- Ensure all job sites and fabrication shops are working in compliance with our safety program.
- Review subcontractor safety program for professionalism and compliance.
- Design and implement training programs and materials. Develop and Coordinate training for safety, health, and environmental programs
- Develop and present safety statistics to applicable levels of the organization. Analyze data for program improvement. Create metrics for measuring the effectiveness of safety programs.
- Develop risk analyses and recommendations, and report to applicable levels of the organization.
- Facilitate relationships with local regulatory agents and respond to any concerns they may have
- Participate in regulatory and customer inspections and represent company standards.
- Serve as the corporate health and safety subject matter expert with clients, regulators, and Cannistraro employees working on projects or designing proposal responses. Provide practical and technical expertise, advice, and solutions to corporate and site management.
- Hire and train the Safety team as needed.
- Chair the Safety Committee
- Manage the budget for health and safety programs.
- Collaborate with Operations leaders to assess risks and develop plans on new projects.

- Ensure employee safety education, communication, and performance by providing materials, programs, and processes.
A successful candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in safety or occupational safety or relevant equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 10 years experience in construction, manufacturing, or industrial safety.
- Have a strong understanding of state and federal safety regulations
- Thorough Knowledge/Understanding of Construction Legal Compliance (OSHA).
- Demonstrated ability to strategize and implement safety programs, policies, and procedures
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent grammar and writing skills
- Strong supervision skills,
- Proven ability to lead others
- Communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate employees and communicate objectives and action plans.
- Ability to research pertinent facts, data and other information from internal and external sources
- Proficient use of computer and corresponding programs – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Proven strong ability to use various applications including databases and systems
- Ability to implement behavioral-based safety techniques to improve/maintain safety performance
- Ability to establish positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand for prolonged periods of time, walk jobsites, regularly climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The position may require lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Due to the environmental conditions of working jobsites including our warehouse and fabrication facilities, there is sufficient noise that may cause the employee to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise levels.
