Role SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Staff Backend Engineer to join our Charging team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in designing, developing, and maintaining the backend systems that power our charging infrastructure. The Charging team at Rivian is responsible for the entire charging infrastructure, including managing the charging network, communicating with chargers, facilitating maintenance and
exporting data for other teams, such as the Mobile team, to display the list of available chargers. This is a unique opportunity to work with innovative technology in a rapidly growing industry.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable backend systems using Java and Spring Boot
- Create and maintain RESTful APIs, ensuring efficient data exchange between various components of our system
- Leverage AWS cloud technologies, like Lambda/EKS/SQS/SNS/Messaging bus to build and deploy backend services
- Utilize Elastic Search and Redis for caching and other NoSQL / SQL databases for storage requirements
- Work with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration of services
- Implement messaging systems like Kafka for real-time data processing and event-driven architecture
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
- Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications
- Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs
- Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation
- Participate in code reviews and mentor junior engineers
- Contribute to the evolution of the technology stack and engineering culture
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of professional experience in backend or full stack software development
- Proven experience as a backend software engineer, with a strong focus on cloud-based solutions
- Strong proficiency with Java and Spring boot
- Expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS
- Experience with serverless architectures
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Strong knowledge of Kafka, Elasticsearch, Redis and Dynamo DB
- Experience with version control systems (Git)
Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing, CI/CD
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Nice to have:
- Experience in the automotive or electric vehicle industry
- Knowledge of charging systems and protocols
- Familiarity with front-end technologies and frameworks
- Experience working in a fast-paced, agile environment
