Role SummaryThe Battery-in-the-Loop (BIL) Senior Development Engineering Technician will be critical in the testing and validation of high-voltage battery systems for electric vehicles (EVs). This role combines expertise in BIL testing protocols, mechanical fabrication, and high-voltage systems to ensure optimal performance and safety. The technician will collaborate closely with engineering teams to support product development and integration.
Responsibilities- BIL System Setup: Configure and maintain BIL testing environments, integrating high-voltage battery systems with hardware and software components effectively.
- Testing and Validation: Execute BIL tests to evaluate battery performance, efficiency, and safety, ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications.
- Data Analysis: Analyze test data to identify performance trends and generate comprehensive reports, providing actionable insights for battery design improvements.
- Mechanical Fabrication: Utilize mechanical fabrication skills to design, build, and modify test fixtures and setups necessary for BIL testing.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to BIL setups and high-voltage components, collaborating with engineering teams to implement effective solutions.
- Safety Protocols: Adhere to all safety protocols and best practices when working with high-voltage systems, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of testing procedures, configurations, and results to ensure compliance and facilitate knowledge transfer.
- Collaboration: Work alongside cross-functional teams, including design, software, BMS teams and quality assurance, to enhance testing methodologies and address system-level challenges.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior technicians and engineering staff on BIL testing techniques, mechanical fabrication, and high-voltage safety practices.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on advancements in battery technology, BIL methodologies, and high-voltage safety standards, recommending improvements to optimize testing processes.
Qualifications- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in battery testing and development within the electric vehicle sector.
- High-Voltage Experience: Familiarity with high-voltage systems and components, with a solid understanding of safety practices related to high-voltage operations.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in BIL testing tools and software, with programming skills in languages such as C/C++ or Python.
- Fabrication Skills: Strong mechanical fabrication skills, including experience with machining, assembly, and welding techniques.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in evaluating battery performance.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with battery management systems (BMS) and energy storage technologies.
- Familiarity with automotive industry standards and safety regulations.
- Relevant certifications in battery testing or mechanical fabrication methodologies.
Pay DisclosureSalary Range for California Based Candidates: $47.33/hr. - $59.16/hr. (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
