POSITION SUMMARY
Under supervision of the Maintenance/Facilities Manager, this position serves as the lead worker for an assigned crew that is responsible for performing preventative maintenance work and repairs for Zoo facilities. This position performs journey level preventative maintenance skills in five (5) or more crafts, or building trades such as HVAC, utility services, electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, cement masonry, dry wall, machinist, roofing, fleet vehicles, welding, doors/hardware or other recognized trade and maintenance areas.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports directly to the Maintenance/Facilities Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the lead technician to an assigned crew. Assists supervisor in the training of subordinates, assigns tasks, helps crew worker with assigned work tasks, provides first level technical support to assigned team for problems and issues, supports Zoo and department goals/objectives, advises maintenance supervisor of employee performance, addresses load leveling issues, helps in the assessment of job skill requirements/training, and prepares daily, weekly or monthly reports.
- Performs journey level skills building crafts and trades, with full knowledge of maintenance and preventative maintenance techniques, methods, practices, standards, procedures, safety precautions, and materials required for the assigned tasks. Ensure preventative maintenance tasks are properly scheduled in the system and remain on schedule avoiding any backlog.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, work orders and various plans and diagrams to lay out work. Determine and uses the necessary designs diagrams, sketches or drawings, to communicate to supervisor to obtain needed approvals and to communicate to team members to allow work to be performed.
- Operates, maintains troubleshoots and repairs various types of building equipment and systems, along with those tasks required to complete complicated tasks, and projects, including preparation and clean up responsibilities in assigned work areas and shops. As required, may be called on to operate heavy equipment.
- Safely operates and is experienced in hand, and power tools, lifts, forklifts, and all other tools and equipment required to perform preventative maintenance tasks and assignments.
- Operates computer systems and Facilities management applications for work order assignments including mobile work order systems, to receive, generate work order assignments, and record asset changes, equipment specification information.
- Ensures system is creating all the correct preventative maintenance work orders for Zoo assets and associated tasks. Will need to generate daily, weekly and monthly reports to understand and manage workload, hours to perform work and type of work assignment for team.
- Perform seasonal snowplow and ice removal operations and work with team members to ensure safe removal of snow and ice.
- Performs all other duties and assignments as assigned.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proven successful supervisory experience required.
- Five (5) years of building and preventative maintenance experience in a Zoo or other facilities.
- Thorough knowledge of the standards, practices, materials, and methods used in three or more the craft trades, such as HVAC, utility services, electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, cement, masonry, dry wall, machinist, roofing, welding, doors/hardware or other recognized trade and maintenance areas, and familiar with codes and ordinances pertaining to these trades.
- Experience with HVAC and Plumbing controls and can demonstrate skills in controlling and troubleshooting control systems.
- Ability to lead maintenance personnel to provide solutions, meet needed work deadlines and demonstrate positive attitude, leadership abilities and skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers.
- Ability to work with computer applications including MS word, excel, and outlook.
- Proficient in Facilities work order application for assignments, including mobile work order systems to receive, generate work order assignments, and record asset changes, equipment specification information. Able to generate daily, weekly and monthly reports to understand and manage workload, hours to perform work, and type of work assignment for team.
- Experienced in troubleshooting Fire systems, HVAC, Controls, Electrical, Plumbing and other Building systems efficiently, providing both short- and long-term solutions to system problems.

- Valid Utah Driver’s license required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Tasks require a variety of moderately heavy physical activities which generally involve muscular strain. Requires activities related to walking, standing, bending, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform essential functions. Exposure to cleaning, and sanitation chemicals heat, cold, noise, dust, and fumes. Requires lifting of up to 80 lbs.
