Job Purpose
To efficiently and effectively maintain information technology deployed company wide and provide computer support in a timely manner to all employees by conducting training, and problem resolution using technical skills or knowledge already possessed or gained through research or collaboration within the IT Department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Cooperative reports, records, databases, spreadsheets, and application programs
- Maintain the corporate LAN and wireless networks
- Provide assistance with managing file/system backups
- Provide assistance with managing an MDM (Mobile Device Management) system
- Provide website authoring support
- Assist in maintaining department inventory
- Maintain all computer service agreements, software licenses, and evaluate and recommend new computer hardware and software
- Install, maintain and provide support for the following:
(1) Phone system hardware/software
(2) Fax server
(3) Video conferencing hardware/software
(4) Surveillance system security cameras
(5) Surveillance system digital video recorders
(6) Surveillance system software
(7) Fuel system management hardware/software
(8) Building access control system/components
(9) Antivirus server/client updates
(10) Signage software/hardware
(11) Computer workstation software/hardware
(12) Wireless communications (offices and substations)
(13) Provide assistance with network security implementation and maintenance
- Provide PC software training to all Cooperative employees as needed
- Perform additional duties as requested
- Learn and comply with Cooperative’s safety rules and procedures
Qualifications
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience working in the information technology field
- Associates Degree
- Carry out variety of activities with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Able to communicate technical information and to provide advice and assistance to Cooperative personnel on all aspects of computer operations
- Able to learn and apply any technical knowledge needed to troubleshoot hardware and software problems, and must be able to deploy new software applications
- Must have experience with Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems, Microsoft Office, computer networking, networking protocols and methods of data communications
- Knowledge of SIEMs (Security Information and Event Management Systems) and application whitelisting (preferred)
- Ability to develop applications in Microsoft Access or other database management software
- Possess good interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain a harmonious relationship with all Cooperative personnel and the members
- Possess oral and written communications skills in the English language
- Ability to multitask and willingness to take on new responsibilities in a constantly evolving environment
- Able to maintain confidential information
- Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and be insurable with the Cooperative’s insurance carrier
- Must be or become certified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation Working conditions
- Subject to irregular working hours
- Travel and overnight stay will be required
- To ensure all employees are provided with drug free and alcohol-free working conditions, pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable cause and random drug and alcohol tests are conducted on all employees
Physical Requirements
- Required to pass a physical examination when employed
- Must have sufficient health to perform the essential functions, duties and responsibilities of the job
- Must be able to perform tasks, which require lifting, standing or sitting for extended periods of time

Rio Grande Electric Cooperative, Inc. (RGEC) was organized in 1945 to enhance the quality of life for rural residents by providing electric service where none existed. Today, at over 35,000 square miles, RGEC has the largest service territory of any electric cooperative in the contiguous United States, serving 18 counties in Texas, and two counties in New Mexico. While it still serves rural areas, many metropolitan areas have expanded into RGEC’s territory, which now includes hospitals, schools, and urban housing developments. The Cooperative was also selected by the military to be the electrical maintenance provider for Fort Bliss, El Paso, and Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio.
RGEC currently employs a compliment of 169 people to serve 7,229 members with 14,531 meters. It maintains offices in Alpine, Brackettville, Carrizo Springs, Dell City, El Paso, and Fort Stockton, with the Brackettville office serving as corporate headquarters. The Co-op maintains 10,044 miles of energized line of which 126 miles are transmission line, 202 miles are underground line, and 9,716 are overhead energized line. RGEC maintains the electrical distribution systems for Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, and Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio, Texas.
