Job Description:
Summary:
The person in this position will work with project teams on civil engineering and related technical assignments. This position generally aligns with the renewable energy sector and power delivery, with the option of branching into other sectors as needed. Work will include performing and leading tasks related to civil design; assisting engineers and clients with the development of wind and solar projects; preparing construction documents, site evaluations, feasibility studies, road design, grading, stormwater design; preparing technical reports, and completing other tasks. Other duties may include assisting with project management.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field
5 years of related experience
Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word as well as intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel
Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other CAD-based civil design software
Experience with GIS-based software
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Ability and willingness to conduct fieldwork independently or with a team, either locally or out of town, when needed
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain certification within one year
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with preparation of plans and specifications, analyzing alternatives, and developing quantity takeoffs and cost estimates
Construction administration experience such as review and response to payment applications, submittals, and claims and interpreting plans, specifications, and bid documents
Experience drafting PowerPoint presentations, memos, and report text and figures
7 or more years of related work experience
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr’s Minneapolis, Minnesota, or Denver, Colorado, offices.
NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and must be able to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Position will require lifting or moving field-testing equipment. Safety training will be provided before being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants will be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of clients.

Compensation:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $70,000–90,000/year. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus.
