Role Summary
The Mechanical Engineer performs a variety of engineering tasks with regional & central support staff collectively focused on the continuous improvement of all plant equipment. This role will concentrate on implementing innovative low life cycle cost engineering solutions to various operations and maintenance issues as well as supporting capital project creation and execution in accordance with industry accepted engineering practices, governing regulations, and Great River Hydro operating procedures.
This role travels as needed to company offices and facilities located in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Limited overnight and out of the region travel may be required.
Responsibilities
- Facilitates and analyzes equipment predictive maintenance programs;
- Directs equipment root cause incident investigations;
- Identifies and communicates various risks associated with all stages of asset life cycle;
- Performs various plant and system level engineering studies;
- Communicates recommendations to management and other effected parties in a way that fosters consensus and facilitates favorable project outcomes;
- Develops comprehensive capital improvement projects that include: a clear definition of scope, investment valuations of alternatives and execution plans;
- Evaluates and recommends various contractors and technical service providers;
- Solicits internal and/or external expertise as needed;
- Ensures relevant engineering documentation is retained in accordance with company expectations including: drawings, reference manuals and other related information;
- Utilizes various central information systems to ensure accurate project costing; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Licensed Professional Engineer preferred, if not, pursuing upon hire is required;
- 5-7 years prior/progressive experience in an Engineering environment (power generation experience is a plus) and comprehensive knowledge of Mechanical designs;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited engineering school;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective communication skills;
- Ability to travel as needed throughout MA, NH, VT;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Strong time-management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple projects;
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills; and
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on AutoCad and MicroStation Cad packages.
